A must for fans of the series
Reviewed: 05-29-21
Great, funny stories that fans of the series will love. Narrator has some minor issues (long pauses, etc.) at the beginning, and gets smoother the further you get into the book. Variety of voices were good, except it would have been nice if Seb and Calvin’s voices were more distinct from each other. Narrator shines when Seb is excited or upset.

Did not like the narrator
Reviewed: 04-15-20
The story is great but the narrator’s vocal choices ruined it for me... especially the voice he picked for the character of Randy, who sounded more like a villain than a lovable rogue.

Court politics and romance
Reviewed: 04-13-20
If you like reading about court politics and finding love, this is a great book for you. Audio was well done as well. My only quibble is that the dragons were a much smaller part of the story than you’d think. The are integral to the story but don’t actually show up much.

Story
Being a hit man has its perks, but I never thought getting an accidental mooning by an attractive PI while he’s caught on a fence would be one of them. While it’s not exactly love at first sight, he’s captured my interest and won’t let go. Suddenly, I find myself caught in a game of cat and mouse, determined to attract the attention of Jackson, the PI who should be my enemy. He pretends like he’s not flattered by my flowers and the mentions of my totally-not-fictitious blow-up doll, Randy (or was it Dandy?), but I know better.

Story
Is it really wrong to want to murder your boss? Dylan has worked for Gabe for two years. Two long years of sarcastic comments. Two long years of insults, and having to redo the coffee pot four times in the mornings to meet his exacting standards. Not surprisingly he has devoted a lot of time to increasingly inventive ways to murder Gabe. From stabbing him with a cake fork, to garrotting him with his expensive tie, Dylan has thought of everything. However, a chance encounter opens his eyes to the attraction that has always lain between them, concealed by the layers of antipathy.

I was a little thrown off by the accents of the people in Amsterdam (definitely not Dutch-sounding), but otherwise it’s easy to tell different characters apart. Book is great and I want the rest of the series!

Didn’t live up to the hype
Reviewed: 07-22-19
I heard a lot of recommendations for this book, which is why I gave it a chance. It took a long time for me to get into the story. The author kept using the main character, Patrick’s, first name over and over and over again, even if he was the only person in the scene. It was driving me crazy. I almost DNF’d this book, but the middle finally caught my attention. But then the ending went on and on, long after the climax of the book. At least 2-3 chapters too long. I started wondering if it was ever going to end. Honestly, am probably not going to try the next one.

When men fall in love with monsters
Reviewed: 07-26-18
Dark love stories of monsters and men. The last story, Creature, was the best of the three and is worth grabbing this book for that one alone.
The narrator is very good at making very different voices. You’ll never get confused as to who is speaking.

Decades later, no one has been charged with the murder, but the aggrieved inhabitants of West Cork are convinced they know who did it - and he still lives among them.

Wasn’t bad, although there was at least one episode that could have been cut. And I thought the ending would have wrapped up a bit better. I also laughed at the warning they gave that the French accents were strong, as some of the Irish accents were harder to follow. (And I’m fairly used to hearing Irish accents.)
