Has real potential

The story was slow and the characters didn't have a lot of depth and the background stories of their lives didn't relate to the main storyline which seemed disconnected. However the most disappointing was how sarcastic the dialogue was for all characters, made it hard to listen to.
This trilogy could have been a really good solid long but single book. With less sarcasm and inane conversation, linking of characters would have produced a punchy story, because the skeleton of the storyline was really good and quite interesting.

If you are a Holmes fan, and even if this is your first touch of Holmes, then you will be riveted from beginning to end. Stephen Fry is the perfect choice for narration and delivers a performance that has you there with Holmes and Watson. I thought the facts and tidbits about Arthur Conan Doyle and his famous characters along with Stephen Fry's own experiences between chapters was enthralling. This will be one of those books I go to continuously over the coming years. Highly recommend
