Publisher's summary

The White Tree (book one): In Mallon, the dark magic of the nether has been banned for centuries. Its users have been driven out or killed. Its secrets lost.

But the holy book of the nethermancers has just been found by a boy named Dante.

As he works to unlock the book's power, he's attacked in the street. The nethermancers aren't gone—and they want their book back. Caught between death cultists and the law, Dante fights for his life, aided by his growing skills and a brash bodyguard named Blays. Together they're drawn into a centuries-old conflict that brings Mallon to the brink of civil war.

Surviving won't be easy. But if they make it out alive, they'll step down the path to becoming two of the greatest warriors the world has ever known.

The Great Rift (book two): Dante and Blays have averted war against their new home of Narashtovik. But they didn't do so alone. It's time to repay their debts.

The norren who helped them remain enslaved by the Gaskan Empire. While arming the norren clans for rebellion, Dante hears one of them is in possession of the legendary Quivering Bow. If he can track down the weapon, it could secure norren independence.

But the wheels of war have already begun to turn. As Gask moves to crush the rebellion, Dante and Blays find themselves at the head of a campaign for survival—for norren and Narashtovik alike.

The Black Star (book three): Narashtovik has been saved—but Dante and Blays' friendship has been destroyed.

Blaming the Gaskan king for the loss of his love, Lira, Blays infiltrates the enemy nobility. There he schemes to bankrupt Gask and drive its ruler from the throne. But Dante's been waiting for Blays' return. If he finds and exposes him, Blays will be executed as a spy.

As they squabble, strange lights shine in the east. Harbingers of a long-forgotten threat. If the signs go ignored, Narashtovik will be annihilated by an enemy it never knew it had.

Enjoyed this book

This storyline captured my interest in the first few minutes and there were very few dull moments in the 66 hours of listening time. The only disappointment was the book ended with several open questions and multiple possibilities for additional adventures.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'm not going to review the story. I'll just say it's a great one. I'm going to review the narrator. Tim Gerard Reynolds turns this awesome fantasy trilogy into a mega-epic masterpiece! It is an absolute joy to listen to Mr. Reynolds on my daily commute. If you have any interest at all in fantasy stories, you owe it to yourself to listen to this one. The narrator absolutely makes it worth it. He breathes life into the characters. His voice for each character makes you think you actually "know" the character, it's so personalized. You can actually tell which character is speaking because of Mr. Reynolds' dynamic voice. I implore you, get this audiobook. You will not regret it. The story is riveting, the narration is captivating.

What did you like best about this story?

Almost 66 hours of adventure, magic, and friendship with top-notch narration. Who could ask for more?

Have you listened to any of Tim Gerard Reynolds’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't had the pleasure, but I'll do so at my earliest convenience. His narration of "The Cycle" is brilliant. I can't wait to hear his other works.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I've laughed out loud during my commute at the humor in this story. I've gasped and cursed at turns of events. The narrator does a great job of drawing the listener in.

Any additional comments?

Seriously, get this audiobook the first chance you get. The story is magnificent, the narration is icing on the cake. Without a doubt, this is my favorite audiobook purchase.

Shades of Hadrian and Royce!!

Not only is the narrator the same as for the Riyria Chronicles, but the two main characters are very similar in their personalities and banter. Fun, fun, fun. What a great deal for one credit!

Value buy with a value product

Would you consider the audio edition of The Cycle of Arawn to be better than the print version?

Well, I couldn't tell you because I've only experienced it in audio but I'd just say yes because I didn't have to drudge through the parts I didn't like the old fashioned way.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

There isn't anything wrong with the story so to say but it just follows the cookie cutter story structure: problem, "oh no, will we escaped this inescapable situation?!", escape situation. Essentially, it was predictable and though the characters get fleshed out eventually it doesn't really come from expert story telling but more from pure volume.

Which scene was your favorite?

any of the shit talking.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, this is a good casual listen and leave kind of story.

Any additional comments?

Good story but nothing to write home about.

overall pretty decent

Loved the narrator, my only complaint was the character development, really wish the author focused on the actual characters instead of just the plot.

Great Book(s)

I don't often write reviews though for this book I'll make an exception. Funny comes first to mind. The quips thrown back and forth between characters made me laugh and shake my head. Who comes up with this. Hmmm a great author It seems.
The narrator did an excellent job of making you feel like you are there.
Best of all it's a complete Trilogy. No waiting years for the next book or books.
