Story
The Troubles. A quaint name for a horrific period in the galaxy's history. A period whose atrocities were superseded only by the terror of the Savage Wars that had come before. Almost no corner of the galaxy was spared a taste of terrible war, cutthroat intrigue…and remorseless death. In the aftermath, this battered galaxy now longs for peace and stability. The Republic, now reformed, seeks to govern by the rule of law. But no matter how sincere the reform, how earnest and well-meaning the ruler, some worlds refuse to place their destiny in the hands of others. Ever again.

A Mostly Morbid Deep Dive Into Murder Mystery
Reviewed: 09-17-22
First off, this is a very good first novel. Alaina Urquhart put her heart and soul into the creation of a well formed universe of believable characters dealing with the realities of good vs evil in real time.
As time goes on and Ms. Urquhart sharpens her literary knives, I fully expect her works to grow in size & scope, bringing her fans on adventures they neither knew or wanted to go on.
As all reviews must have some negative to make the positive twice as sweet. I can only point out one flaw and it is so minuscule that the only people who would be picky enough to call it out have lived or do live in Southern/SW Louisiana & Southeast Texas…
You know what, I’m not gonna say it. She has probably gotten ragged about it too many times already and it doesn’t stop the story from being fantastic.
(Although they will have to work some stuff out if they make it into a movie.)
It’s a great book, I say give it a chance & personally I look forward to more from Ms. Urquhart. Until then I’ve always got Morbid👍 and you should give that a listen too!

Story
From the Demon Dog of American literature comes James Ellroy’s Hollywood Death Trip. Dig into a quintet of highly stylized true crime that delves into some of the most notorious, unsolved, midcentury-Hollywood murders. Ellroy’s wicked baritone draws listeners into a series of hellacious crimes; beginning with the heartbreaking and gruesome murder of his own mother. Next, it’s the Karen Kupcinet Killing - her body, found strangled just days after JFK’s assassination. Beautiful Stephanie Gorman, a debutante killed by a stranger, made Los Angeles lock its doors at night. The series concludes with the salacious snuff of actor Sal Mineo, whose death is a fitting epigraph for a series set in “Hollyweird”.

I had the good fortune of meeting C. Robert Cargill about a decade back at a sci-fi convention in Minneapolis and not only is he a fantastic human being but as a storyteller, he is unrivaled. From his work in the movies to his published fiction, Mr. Cargill comes at the creative process with a fervor and unique viewpoint that few in the business can equal.
Sea of Rust is a must read if You are looking to feed your brain some yummy yummy sci-fi goodness.

Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Story
An AI overseer and a human crew arrive on a distant planet to salvage an ancient UN starship. The overseer is unhappy. The crew, well, they're certainly no A-team. Not even a C-team on the best of days. And worse? Urmahon Beta, the planet, is at the ass-end of nowhere. Everybody expects this to be a long, ugly, and thankless job. Then it all goes disastrously wrong. What they thought was an uninhabited backwater turns out to be anything but empty.
