I think this is probably a very good book, but it is extremely emotionally taxing. I wasn't prepared for how much grief and loss would be involved in this book. The plot is meandering like an epic poem. Crow leaves trails of tragedy in his wake and it's hard to deal with that stark dearth of happy endings.

Story
PI Jackson Rivers grew up on the mean streets of Del Paso Heights and he doesn't trust cops, even though he was one. When the man he thinks of as his brother is accused of killing a police officer in an obviously doctored crime, Jackson will move heaven and earth to keep Kaden and his family safe.

I struggled with this one. It's way darker than I would have expected. Nobody can catch a break in this book, man. So, if that's not what you're looking for...steer clear.
I think this was actually a good book, but the cat got hurt and it was really stressful and dark. I also didn't really understand why so many of the issues in the book were related to racial inequality and prejudice, but the two heroes were white dudes. Also, the cat is ok, but got hurt and I think that's uncool.

Story
It’s really hard to pretend like life is normal when you’re staring a monster in the eyes, though he’s both tempting and irritating in his human form. I put my days as a hunter behind me, unable to cope with the death and pain anymore, to become an upstanding citizen and for what? To assist Lake, a man who claims he’s not a monster but keeps talking about me like I’m edible and–even worse–wants to woo me?

I've liked some of this author's stuff, but this one really isn't a winner.
The plot is simply not compelling and I can't find it in me to care about the characters.
I preferred Alice's supervillain Christmas book and the whole wolf/snowleopard shifter series.

I'm not really sure what's going on a lot of the time. It seems like there's a lot of skipping around, almost like the book is abridged or something.

Quinn: After Rowan and I escape Mercer’s hold, we have to get the pack somewhere safe, but my only option is a pride run by a controlling alpha. With everyone safely inside the walls of Winterhaven, Rowan and I attempt to search for the truth, but we’re being hunted and driven further from the answers we need. I want to do everything to protect my mate, but as I learn more about his past, I realize that I might need to protect him from more than just Mercer.

It all comes down to this. I should have known my freedom from Mercer would only last so long before my pack was hunted down, and I was dragged back into it all. It’s suffocating being back in this place that twisted my shifter side forever and threatened to change who I am. But this time is different.

Master Ambrosius was created over a millennium ago and had come to terms with spending his life alone. He has his coven, his second, and a few close friends, but he continues to be haunted by the memory of his fated mate running from him in terror. That is, until the goddess sends him to Montana, and he discovers his body reacting to a sexy alpha with wide shoulders and dark eyes. Surely there’s some mistake though, right?

Nothing brings two men—or one man and an ancient god—together like revenge. Private investigator Sloane sacrificed his career in law enforcement in pursuit of his parents’ murderer. Like them, he is a follower of long-forgotten gods, practicing their magic and offering them his prayers…not that he’s ever gotten a response.

This was definitely less interesting than it could've been, being such a bananas idea and all. It definitely wasn't a bad book, but the plot was a bit aimless. The squidgod was funny sometimes, but it felt like he was more of a sex pest than he really needed to be. It was kind of annoying that the main character had the same tragic backstory as the Flash......or Harry Potter. I guess there are only so many emotional origin stories which push someone toward law enforcement.

Story
As the first humans allowed in Suevan space, there’s a lot riding on my all-woman team. Earth desperately needs their tech, and I’m determined to prove we can negotiate the price. Without their planetary defense systems, Earth is a sitting duck, ripe for invasion. Except the Suevan culture is nothing like ours. When I take part in what I think is a welcoming ceremony, I leave with more than I bargained for: a husband. A mate. Apparently, we’re there to marry them as payment—something the top brass on Earth doesn’t bother denying. Fantastic.

When half-human Kai Schiffer steps into the Interstices—the post-creation gaps between realms—his supernatural half kicks in, and he literally disappears unless…well, don’t ask. But in a stroke (heh) of good fortune, Kai finally has a chance to show his face (and other parts, stars willing) to his long-time crush Jovan Kos—Interstitial Law Enforcement agent, wolf warrior, occasional berserker, and best man at their mutual best friends’ Imbolc wedding. Jovan is grateful his best man duties are light enough that he can focus on Kai. After all, what could possibly go wrong?

I really liked the rest of the series to varying degrees... but this one seems to be the bad one. There's virtually no plot. There is only mutual pining and it is very boring. You can give this one a miss.
