I don’t like all the bad and sad things that happen in this book, but I still highly recommend reading it. The performance is great, the storyline interesting, and overall a great read that leaves the reader coming back for more.

Surprising yet predictable
Reviewed: 02-14-21
I like the Selection series, despite a horrible narration (sorry Ms. Rubinate). The storyline is a bit predictable, though somehow it still hooks me in enough to have purchased the audiobooks so I can listen to them as many times as I like. Even though I don’t like the performance, I had to give it 5 stars because it doesn’t stop me from listening.

Good, though a bit dark

Spoiler alert: a student from Hogwarts dies in this book. Voldemort gets a new body of his own. From here to the end of the series the books wind up in intense darkness and peril. The only reason I can stand listening to these books is due to Rowling inserting humor to lighten up the story line. Dale is excellent at reading as well. I’d recommend definitely, if you are up for an adventure.

Story
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

I had heard of the Harry Potter series and, before listening to the books for myself, thought they must be pure evil! They are anything but. The truth of the matter is I got my Audible account opened because I had listened to the whole series on my library app last year, loved them all and wanted to listen again, but did not want to wait for months to hear them so I bought them all on Audible my first month. I don’t get tired of listening to these books.

For any Harry Potter fans or even if you aren’t, these fairytales are quite interesting. I thought the performance well done. The only disappointing thing about this audiobook is how quickly it’s over, but it’s great for a quick listen.
