A hidden gem
Reviewed: 02-26-23
First let me tell you that the narration is some of the best I've heard. Laura Horowitz is now in my top 5 favorite narrators.
Next the story. It's unique and like nothing I've ever read. I normally don't read books where the heroine is in their teens (19 in this case). But the story sucked me. It's well written and flows well. There isn't a lot of "filler" like in other books where authors seem to just trying to get their word count up. I like the fact that the author let the female lead have true emotions and not some romantic fluff. The author reminds me of Grace Draven's writing in that aspect. She has created a unique world with a original spin on the Fae and their conflicts. Did it end on a cliffhanger as advertised? Yes, it did BUT the books are out on Kindle and I'm one of those that can read a book and then later listen to it. I look forward to reading/listening to more.
Bottom line: Worth the credit!

Keenan is the mistake Khloe knows she shouldn't make. As an incubus, he's got an inside track into everything that makes her tick, and even though she's immune to his supernatural (and frankly unfair) sex appeal, that doesn't stop her body - and her demon - craving him. If it were any other male she'd have worked it out of her system ages ago and moved on, but this time she's scared that if she ever gives in, she won't escape unscathed.

Great story, love the series and the author, Cat does a wonderful job with the voices. The editor of the series however, leaves some double sentences throughout the series (same sentence said twice). This book in particular, at the very end of Chapter 18, there was a part where Cat said "okay, I was scrolling and then yup" and then says the line again.

Story
What started out as a strange assignment leads to one of the most gruesome murder mysteries of our time, and my friends and I are set and determined to find out who is killing off Fae and Witches alike. Couple of problems in the way - I hate the Fae, and the Prince of the Dark Fae is bound and determined that I work for him. He’s a rude, overbearing, egotistical ass with a compulsive need to possess, dominate, and control me. Oh - did I mention that he is absolutely sex-on-a-stick gorgeous and he makes me feel things that I never ever wanted to feel for a Fae....

If you're new to Amelia Hutchins, then you're in for a wild ride! If you're like me and have been wait anxiously for this series to hit audible, it's been worth wait. Love, Love, LOVED IT! The world building, characters, secondary (for now) characters are just breath-taking! Alpha males everywhere! Strong heroines, gripping story and the best part...this is only book one! I'm like a damn crack addict when it comes to the Fae Chronicles, I can't get enough.
Worth the credit? Hot damn! It's worth two!

I loved it! Of course I love all of her books and have recommended them to all of my friends who are avid readers and they've loved them too. This one will be no exception. I didn't want it to be over. I wanted more.
At the beginning I was so made at the hero. He was kind, gentle, and caring but was selfish. You understand his reasons but you just want the smack him!.
Minor spoiler - don't read if you don't want to know anything about the book - I loved that the author gave the heroine true emotions over being taken by force by the hero. I read so many books where she is kidnapped and just instantly fall for the hero and forgives him immediately. In my mind I'm going...really? She was mad and she let him know it. She tried to escape and made no promises that she wouldn't do it again. She was genuine with her emotions. As was the hero.
So worth the credit. The narrator was excellent! She was easy to listen to and didn't grate on my nerves with accents like others sometimes do.

Fantastic!

I don't write many reviews. They have to really grab me for me to write one. First off, world building! This author builds a world that is in-depth without overloading the reader/listener with so many details that it makes the story drag. Second, the characters both the main and secondary characters! The main characters are flawed, both black and white. They clash and support each, each in their own way. So many layers! Third, the story! Fast paced, engaging, enthralling. It will hook you from the start. And finally, the performance! Steve West is freaking fantastic. It's the first book I've ever listened to by him and now I'm a fan! Some narrators read the story and there is inflection and some emotion comes through. Steve West actually acts out the scenes, you feel like there are two actors doing a read through of a script. I didn't want to stop listening. I wanted to be able to stay awake and finish it. So, so good!
