Story
It’s hard to find an employer who doesn’t ask too many questions about my past. So I thank my lucky stars that the Garricks miraculously give me a job, cleaning their stunning penthouse with views across the city and preparing fancy meals in their shiny kitchen. I can work here for a while, stay quiet until I get what I want.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late. But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am. They don’t know what I’m capable of....

Who Killed JFK? For 60 years, we are still asking that question. In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's tragic assassination, legendary filmmaker Rob Reiner teams up with award-winning journalist Soledad O’Brien to tell the history of America’s greatest murder mystery. They interview CIA officials, medical experts, Pulitzer-prize winning journalists, eyewitnesses and a former Secret Service agent who, in 2023, came forward with groundbreaking new evidence. How did a boy from small-town New York become the world’s most successful writer? How does he do it? He has always wanted to write the kind of novel that would be read and reread so many times that the binding breaks and the book literally falls apart. As he says, “I’m still working on that one.”

Story
A third-generation Jehovah's Witness, Amber Scorah had devoted her life to sounding God's warning of impending Armageddon. She volunteered to take the message to China, where the preaching she did was illegal and could result in her expulsion or worse. Here, she had some distance from her community for the first time. Immersion in a foreign language and culture - and a whole new way of thinking - turned her world upside down, and eventually led her to lose all that she had been sure was true.

I enjoyed this book on many levels. Through writing this book, Amber is helping many of us who were swayed by the illustrations of children playing with pandas and lions on the new earth created exclusively for Jehovah’s Witnesses juxtaposed next to illustrations of the rest of us whom the ever loving Jehovah will kill and cast into a fiery lake of destruction because we were not Jehovah’s Witnesses by birth or by choice.
I started studying and asking questions in 1987 at the death of my boyfriend with whom I was deeply in love. When he died, I only wanted to rejoin him. A Jehovah’s Witness came to my “aide” and told me that my beloved dead lover was only sleeping. That he would rise and be given a chance to live on the new earth….but as for me…..well it wouldn’t be so easy. I would have to convert and become a Jehovah’s Witness to survive Armageddon and only then could I reunite with him as God saw fit.
I fell for it for about 2 1/2 years. I left home. I was to rent a disheveled house with a witness friend. My parents were heartbroken because I’d given up college and most all of my previous goals to follow into what they perceived as a cult. I was emotional. Then an elder forbade my witness friend to move into the disheveled home with me because I was not yet baptized and would make the organization look bad.
After that, I gave up and went home. I missed my family and I decided to try to get into college, which I did. I spent the next few years trying to find myself and become someone of whom I could be proud. I have a bachelor’s degrees and two master’s degrees.
Fast forward to the last week of March 2022, I got a letter in the mail from someone wanting to study the Bible with me. I called. The lady was very nice and I gave it a try. First class zoom meeting. But old hurts die hard. That’s when I took to google searching stories of ex-Jehovah’s Witnesses and found this book. I listened with great eagerness because I understood all of what Amber was feeling.
At this point, I canceled the Bible study and exclaimed to my own heart that I just couldn’t go through this again at age 50-ish, married and with an adult son.
Religion wise, I’m still unsure. We became Catholics and even now — I’ve discovered things about that faith that annoys me yet most of it is hidden behind the beauty of the Mass and the appeal of mystery in the cathedrals. My husband and I started going to a quiet Christian church on a hill — plain and simple. And I like that. I believe in the priesthood of the believer. I’m tired of authoritarian lies and deceit from any organization.
Amber’s book is again, intelligently written and a joy to which to listen.
Thank you, Amber and I wish you all of the best in your life with your second child, education, and life. You seem to be a lovely person who has had to face a lot of pain in life. I’m glad you have survived.

Ever since medical school, Dr. Christiane Northrup has been guided by an essential truth about the way our bodies, minds, and souls are intertwined. It's the same truth Edgar Cayce expressed in this famous formula: The spirit is life. The mind is the builder. The physical is the result. When we don't grasp this - when we view our bodily well-being in isolation - life can devolve into constant worry about our health and constant battling to make our bodies "behave".
