Story
From New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Freida McFadden comes the next installment of the unbelievably twisty, tension-packed and globally bestselling Housemaid series. This book can be enjoyed as a standalone listen: and once you start, it will have you up all night until the final explosive twist.

Disappointed. Seemed kind of stupid and had quite a few holes in the story.

I didn't really like this one that much. I felt the first two books in the series had much better plot twists to them. Here I figured out who the killer was quite early and was disappointed in "how" and why the murder was committed. It was just too convnient and didn't really make sense. Additionally, the murder seemed quite a harsh punishment given the victim's transgressions toward the murderer. I think the author should have gone into much greater detail to develop the victim's pathology more deeply as a motive for the murder. From what was written, it seemed unnecessary for the acts committed. Plus, I don't believe that the cops- the highly competent detective assigned to the case - would have so easily accepted the confession given today's forensic capabilities. Finally, wrapping up the story using the epilog seemed like a lazy way to end it. Maybe the author just got tired and bored with the characters and wanted to quickly finish this book.

Story
In this first novel, we are introduced to suave, handsome Tom Ripley: a young striver, newly arrived in the heady world of Manhattan in the 1950s. A product of a broken home, branded a "sissy" by his dismissive Aunt Dottie, Ripley becomes enamored of the moneyed world of his new friend, Dickie Greenleaf. This fondness turns obsessive when Ripley is sent to Italy to bring back his libertine pal, but he grows enraged by Dickie's ambivalent feelings for Marge, a charming American dilettante.

He's obviously gay even though the author never acknowledged it openly. I guess that's what they did in the 1950's. He's also a sponge. I don't know what the hell his talent was. This was a waste of my time. How this became a movie I'll never understand. Boring. I couldn't wait for it to end

Story
Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

this book is long and plotting. takes until the third act for anything really to start happening. overall the story was only okay. it was difficult to realize what the hell was happening through the first 2/3 of the book. also the first two-thirds of the book really didn't help to set up the end very much. you got to be an insomniac just stick with this book. beginning of the book spends a whole lot of time on character development, for the most part that really could be left out when the end of the story comes around. I would not recommend this book.

Takes a while to get going; narrator sucks!

If you can make it thru the first 24 chapters (90+ total) you'll enjoy this one. The story doesn't seem to go anywhere until chapter 25; even though I'd figured out the plot line in about chapter 2!
Additionally, the narrator's mind-numbing, plodding, monotone interpretation of the lead male detective (and other male characters) left me contemplating smashing my head against the wall! It wasn't until I increased the playback speed to 130% that I could stand to continue listening.
Gotta say that I was suspicious, but never really saw the ending coming. Nice twist.

Two years ago, Dr. Gina Brady broke Thomas Prescott’s heart, but now her panic-stricken satellite phone call starts it beating again with a fury. Thugs kidnapped the good doctor from the remote jungle village where she was working, and now the retired homicide detective’s expert skills are desperately needed to save her. Led by a colorful, but perhaps untrustworthy local guide, Prescott journeys deep into the Bolivian Amazon, plunging into a world where the only thing more dangerous than the gun-toting drug traffickers and the ruthless tribesmen, is the jungle itself.

I started out listening to the Cavendish and Walker series and really enjoy that. I was curious what this one would be like and I found that I like it even more! I find the Birdie character very relatable with her quirks and idiosyncrasies and Seb is a great straight man but not quite as uptight as Dr. Cavendish in C & W. I'm eager to hear in which direction this pair will go. I can't wait until the next book comes out!
