Wow if you ever thought that Russia had changed for the better....think again. "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely " but the human spirit still shines in dark places. Trump should listen to this.

Story
On the world called Hyperion, beyond the law of the Hegemony of Man, there waits the creature called the Shrike. There are those who worship it. There are those who fear it. And there are those who have vowed to destroy it. In the Valley of the Time Tombs, where huge, brooding structures move backward through time, the Shrike waits for them all.

Just lacking all round. I thought it was cheezy to have each of the pilgrims to tell their stories. The book is these separate stories loosely and annoyingly stitched togethet. Like a best of recap of a tv series. I will be returning it.

Story
For years, guitarist Quinn Porter has been on the road, chasing gig after gig, largely absent to his twice-ex-wife Belle and their odd, Guinness records-obsessed son. When the boy dies suddenly, Quinn seeks forgiveness for his paternal shortcomings by completing the requirements for one of his son's unfinished Boy Scout badges. For seven Saturdays Quinn does yard work for Ona Vitkus, the spry 104-year-old Lithuanian immigrant the boy had visited weekly.

Surprisingly Great Listen

Not my usual genre or story type but give it a chance and it reels you in. It is a slow well crafted story. I like that they don't label the boy which we are too quick to do these days. His life unfolds and is shown to us through his short relationship with a 104 year old woman. His father who struggles to relate or bond to his son finds love and acceptance through this woman of his son, and all are enriched by the boy even in his absence. Touching in subtle way.

Story
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

poor naration
Reviewed: 04-27-17
I found it very hard to stay with this book due to the naration. The book starts strong with an action fight scene, but the naration is so mono tone and boring it was putting me to sleep. My son loved this book, but in audio format it was tough slogging for me. I persevered and about 1/2 way through I started to enjoy it and was no longer detracted by the naration.

Great for youth and young at heart.

A story of a young boy, Aidan full of imagination and adventures. His father teaches him many skills but his father's dominating nature also leaves it's mark. Aidan's quick mind and well intentioned deeds often lead to disappointment. He has many ghosts in his closet to over come on his path to becoming the hero and savior of his best friend who was taken by slavers when they were young.
Great story and characters and highly recommended and more so for young readers.
