Just a really satisfying conclusion! The character development was very well done and there were several twists I didn't expect, overall just a really good trilogy!

Okay, this book is much better than the first one (I think because of how Audible formated the first) and really gets into the tragedy of Dr Fid. I didn't mind the flashbacks at all, I felt like they were handled pretty well and provided a lot of psychological detail on the protag. The story in general is very well done too, good balance between plot and character, lots of following up threads from the first book. which is nice.

Even supervillains have lines they dare not cross. If only the same could be said of heroes.... For more than two decades, the sight of Doctor Fid's powered armor has struck terror into the hearts of hero and civilian alike. But when a personal tragedy motivates Doctor Fid to investigate a crime, a plot is uncovered so horrific that even he is taken aback. Haunted by painful memories and profound guilt, the veteran supervillain must race against time if he is to have any hope of confronting the approaching threat.

Excellent writing marred by technical issues.

There are parts of this that are impossible to get through because things jump abruptly from one point to another, and I can't imagine that's a stylistic choice given how this author writes, which means it's an audible issue. It's unfortunate because the story really had my attention and I have no real complaints about the writing. Love the title character, there are some excellent moments, the supporting cast is well-developed, it's good but I can't recommend this specific version unless audible fixes the errors (two chapters actually repeat! it's a mess!)

The reader did an excellent job, and it's really a fun story! I deeply appreciate that they updated the language for this version (the original book uses "g*psy" a lot for Victor and his family, which is considered a slur by most Romani people, it's nice to not have to hear a bunch of that)
Story wise, it's classic Marv Wolfman, classic Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom. Good pacing, and probably the most detailed version of Dr Doom's origins I've seen, certainly outside of comics.

In a post-apocalyptic future, Marvel's Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord finds Peter Quill (Timothy Busfield) and Rocket (Chris Elliott) a little paunchier, a little slower, and a lot saltier than they were during the glory days of the Guardians of the Galaxy. They quickly discover the Earth isn't what it used to be either, when they crash land 30 years after all the world's super villains seized control. The former Guardians are accompanied by a Rigellian Recorder, affectionately dubbed "Cora", who documents their mission to find the Black Vortex--an ancient relic reported to yield cosmic powers...

Been waiting for this one to drop, and while I don't love the VA (Doom should not have an American accent, sorry) it's very well written. Val Richards is a good addition (Johnny Claymore too, really enjoying the dynamic between those two) - I had given up on this series so I'm pleasantly surprised!

Mark Waid has hated Dr Doom as a character since the Unthinkable arc of Fantastic Four comics. This is just more of same. Give it a pass if you actually love the character, he's treated very poorly here.

Been following this podcast for most of a year now, it's a great show, funny and entertaining, plus I love the level of detail they go into with these topics and the compassion they bring to the real human elements behind most legends.
Definitely recommend.
