Story
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Started excellent, then............
Reviewed: 05-10-23
I love all things Stephen King........ with the exception of this book.
It started out with riveting characters (including a dog) that scantly remind you of the characters in "The Sand Lot", but even so it I was happily reading along on the edge of my seat, as I do with any King novel.
Then....... almost as if King simply ran out of ideas or lost his imagination, the story reverted to what (in my mind) borders on simple plagiarism, taking excerpts from many different "Fairy Tales" that we've all heard or read as kids.
I understand that "Fairy Tales" is indeed the name of the novel, but I was expecting something original from The Master of Horror, not the re-polished telling of other authors stories.
I honestly feel like a Judas writing this review, but I am amazed that no one else has made these distinctions.

Story
Rise the dark. These were the last words written in Lauren Novak's notebook before she was murdered in a strange Florida village. They've never meant anything to the police or to her husband, investigator Markus Novak. Now the man he believes killed her is out of prison and draws Markus to the place he's avoided for so long: the lonely road where his wife was shot to death beneath the cypress trees and Spanish moss in a town called Cassadaga.

Ex-military policeman Jack Reacher is a drifter. He’s just passing through Margrave, Georgia, and in less than an hour, he’s arrested for murder. Not much of a welcome. All Reacher knows is that he didn’t kill anybody. At least not here. Not lately. But he doesn’t stand a chance of convincing anyone. Not in Margrave, Georgia. Not a chance in hell.

I had to force myself to finish it as the narration was just terribly irritating.
Imagine James T Kirk reading with all the typical over acting and intense emphasis on every other word.
It was rather annoying and I can only hope the Next instalments of the Jack Reacher series has a different reader or I am unfortunately out.

A great story of a man’s love of dogs and dog racing. I enjoyed this book written about a man who only begins to shadow the intestinal fortitude, determination and sacrifice that must be present to enter The Great Race. The bond felt with his team, and the over whelming obsession that is racing is tangible and will be enjoyed by anyone who loves dogs and has a competitive spirit.

Story
This collection of Buk's grimmest diaries gives an insight into the noir and brutal Los Angeles that Bukowski observed and lived so well. He was a legend in his time: a madman, a recluse, a lover...tender, vicious...never the same. These are exceptional stories that came pounding out of his violent and depraved life - horrible and holy. You cannot listen to them and come away the same again.

An exercise in vulgarity for vulgarities sake

Well written, disconnected snippets of writing whose culmination made very little sense.
Will Pattons performance was excellent but the story was just not my cup of tea. Could not get invested in the story line because as soon as it would start to get interesting it would change directions for no apparent reason.
I believe the author has much writing talent but either none, or too active an imagination.

Story
Never Love a Stranger, still considered one of Robbins' most powerful books, tells the story of Francis "Frankie" Kane, an orphan growing up in the dirty world of New York's Hell's Kitchen. After being kicked out of a Catholic orphanage when it is discovered that he is of Jewish descent, a confused and deeply distraught Frankie turns to a life of crime, the only life he knows, and he's good at it.

Willl Patton, as always gives a great performance.
The story kept me interested throughout the entire book, with a combination of tough kid to tough guy storyline.
Not too far off the typical “everyone loves a polite mobster” storyline but i think that’s what made it interesting.
I’ve never read Robibns before and I’ve had a tough time finding anyone that stacks up to Stephen King, but i plan on the purchase of another of his books as I really enjoyed this one.

Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen - the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria - took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.

Lazy, unimaginatvie writing.
Reviewed: 07-22-19
I am only about 1/4 of the way through this monster and I am woefully disappointed. I am a huge fan of the "Song of Ice and Fire" series and I am disappointed that there was no novel bringing closure to the series.
I was happy to hear this book was out and excited that, even if it didn't offer the closure I was looking for, that it would add to the character development of the ancestry of all involved.
Well it sorta does, but in the most unimaginative way possible. There was no character development to speak of and this narrative reminds me of my high school history teacher droning on about the build-up to the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was like a historical text and there was no peak into the minds of those involved.
I am not sure if I am even going to finish it. It is so mind-numbing that I find my mind engaged in other things while listening and I lose track of the story, but it really doesn't matter because it's just not that interesting. Sure it's kinda neat to hear some of the names mentioned in the original series, but it's written as a historical text, not as a real-time diary including the thoughts of the individuals involved. This added to the fact that the narrator never changes cadence, pitch or anything to distinguish one character from another just makes it not so much fun to listen to.
This book appears to have been written as a bracketed family tree and the only people interested in those are the people within it. It tells you who begat whom and gives a brief opinion as to why certain events may have happened, but not much else.
I, personally found this to be very lazy writing and I feel ripped off as I was expecting something as wonderfully captivating as the original series.
