This book gave me hope for helping my child. I believe so much of behavior is tied to nutrition and hormonal balance. This provides a very practical step by step process for how to treat adhd. I love that his first response is nutrition, vitamins and supplements and not meds. Meds have their place but should not be step one and he makes that clear. Our physician said going to a psychiatrist would be the short path to solve our child’s problems but he reluctantly gave us a referral for neurologist. The doctor was not considering other brain factors (childhood trauma) that have made meds ineffective or problematic. With the neurologist we are able to get the biological testing done the author prescribed and not simply a behavior chart that says our child has adhd.

Quitting is not something usually associated with Christians- in fact I do not think of myself as a quitter at all; yet God used Geri to help me to see several things I need to quit- like lying! I’m a good Christian - in fact I’m a pastor! But I didn’t realize how often I say yes to people even though I want to say no. I simply say yes because I think I’m supposed to, because it is the nice thing to do. The result is I end up overcommitted, taxed and worn out trying to meet everyone else’s needs instead of doing only what God has called me to.

I have read all of the other “Emotionally Healthy” books by the Scazzero’s and each has beautiful gems of wisdom. There is some overlap, but surprising little. In fact any overlap is a helpful reminder, “oh, yeah, I forgot I need to do that, think that, change that, etc.” I have read other books on emotional health, deliverance, spiritual health and maturity. It is possible that some of them tilled up the soil, but the Emotionally Healthy Leader, and EHS were the ones that God used to bring breakthrough. I highly recommend them!

Heaven Is for Real Audiobook By Todd Burpo, Lynn Vincent cover art

In almost all cases the book is better than the movie, but in this case the movie completely distorted the message of the book. I saw the movie first and felt the message was lame and disappointing from a Christian perspective. A friend said I had to read the book because it was totally different. I whole-heartedly agree now. The book presents a compelling case for the child's trip to heaven. The book is much more theologically sound than I expected (although I did have a couple points of disagreement). Overall definitely worth the read/listen.

Very helpful in understanding how our brain works and we can actually deceive ourselves. Although I don't share all of the authors conclusions and summaries I found the information helpful and definitely worth the time.

Interesting way to think of the creative process (or war). Probably the best quote "It was easier for Hitler to start WWII than to face the blank canvas."
