I can't believe people act this way. How sad this is how I'm seen by others. Over bearing Black women and men being 'taught' how to be women. Society is inundated with the the toxic dynamic of loud Black women saying and doing whatever/however they want no matter how hurtful but nitpick men to an inch of their lives and then the man does a self depreciating song & dance & rolls over like a dog. I'm so glad I did not date & marry in this day & age. I know where all the 'real' men are - they no longer exist.

Why do the female characters have to be so damn exhausting? Books like this make it easy to see why female artists of ANY kind aren't taken too seriously or preferred over men AND why modern men are walking away from Black women in droves. The GAMES - going from 'I don't need anyone' to crying to being strong to indecisive to full grown to acting like a child. ATTACKING THE BOSS! Jesus christ. I'm a woman and this gave me a headache.

The narration at times is horrible. But I can handle it more than the banter. Do people who like each other talk to each other like this in real life? I cringed at the name calling & overreacting, it was really uncomfortable 😐....exhausting.

These books are great to listen to but REALLY, this is why relationships end and women are left bitter, antagonistic and destructive. Too proud to say what you feel. Antagonizing the man to the point of anger & then CONTINUING to push. Projecting brokenness and expecting a new partner to do what was never required previously - basically expecting a stranger to fix you WHILST holding back secrets. 🙄🙄🙄 The male characters don't make it any better by catering to nonsense, being emasculated. IRL, he'd be gone.

So many mixed feelings. My issues with this book are all cultural. The disrespect many Black women dish out to Black men is embarrassing. I wonder what this author thinks her contribution to society is with her books. In this book we have the perpetual angry Black woman who was raised by a single mother and of course, she (mom) 'didn't need a man....so neither does she'. This trope was actually celebrated instead of allowing for alternative narratives. The main female character is the perfect example of why many Black men stop dating Black women or can't stand them. This author thought it'd be great to continue pushing this toxicity into Black culture.

I was prepared to NOT like this book. It's not even my genre but it was free and I'm glad I clicked on it.

The start of a wretched character. Oh God when I want Black positivity - forget about it. There are other authors for that.

I do not like how death was glossed over as if it were just a blimp on a screen. The read was great until the unraveling. That part is just disturbing.

The narration is horrendous. I also hate when women are portrayed as tough strong girl bosses YET acts so moronic & childish around a man. 'I like him, but can't tell him, he needs to read my mind. I'll act uninterested while repeatedly accusing him of having a girlfriend'. So exhausting. I couldn't finish. The murder is interesting & I'd like to know what happened but this grown up insane school girl crush along with the horrendously ridiculous narration, I don't care about the murder.

It's ok, I guess. The ending left much to be desired, not fulfilling at all. I'm glad this was free.
