Story
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Story
In an attempt to find out, Mary Roach brings her tireless curiosity to bear on an array of contemporary and historical soul-searchers: scientists, schemers, engineers, mediums, all trying to prove (or disprove) that life goes on after we die. She begins the journey in rural India with a reincarnation researcher and ends up in a University of Virginia operating room where cardiologists have installed equipment near the ceiling to study out-of-body near-death experiences.

Narration is so awful
Reviewed: 11-16-20
I love Mary Roach and her books. The narrator of this book is so terrible and distracting that I found it impossible to follow the story.
Please, for the love of all that is holy, just stop trying to read this work with affected accents. It’s just sad.
So, yes, read the book but do not usted to it.

Hiaasen doesn’t disappoint

Great story, we’ll-written and paced. Hiaasen’s colorful adjectives continue to delight and this nearly true tale of snakes, both the reptile and human form, combine for another entertaining romp.

Story
Shocked by a five-month arson spree that left rural Virginia reeling, Washington Post reporter Monica Hesse drove down to Accomack County to cover the trial of Charlie Smith, who pled guilty to 67 counts of arson. But Charlie wasn't lighting fires alone: he had an accomplice - his girlfriend, Tonya Bundick. Through her depiction of the dangerous shift that happened in their passionate relationship, Hesse brilliantly brings to life the once-thriving coastal community and its distressed inhabitants.

read this story as it unfolded in my neighborhood.
The story is good and well researched and well-written. My only negatives were several misspelled place names and the butchering of place names the reader managed.
Still, a good read.

Enjoyed this romp through America-a little contrived and somewhat predictable but enjoyable nonetheless. Waiting for the next on the series.

I enjoyed the telling of this story. It is a stark account of life with an alcoholic sibling and the ensuing erosion of a family. Made my dysfunctional life seem downright cheerful. I would recommend the book as it is captivating, well-written and memorable.
