reunited with a favorite character
Reviewed: 10-18-23
I was so excited to see a continuation of the Mr. Mercedes series of stories from The King, and especially glad to be reunited with one of my favorite characters, Holly! the story moved quickly and kept me listening on every weekend trip and even around town to and from work and the store. I can't wait to see what case comes up next!

A Magical Story of Hope
Reviewed: 11-29-21
this was a beautiful story and lovely narration. a short and simple story of Hope and possibility. there was one fact missing in the story that I wish would have been revealed but perhaps there was a reason for leaving it out. it was apparently written for younger audiences but I believe anyone would not only enjoy it but benefit from its message.

Story
Just as he did in The Terror, Dan Simmons draws impeccably from history to create a gloriously engaging and terrifying narrative. Based on the historical details of Charles Dickens' life and narrated by Wilkie Collins (Dickens' friend, frequent collaborator, and Salieri-style secret rival), Drood explores the still-unsolved mysteries of the famous author's last years and may provide the key to Dickens's final, unfinished work: The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

Story
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Story
In her late 20s, Cait Flanders found herself stuck in the consumerism cycle that grips so many of us: earn more, buy more, want more, rinse, repeat. Even after she worked her way out of nearly $30,000 of consumer debt, her old habits took hold again. When she realized that nothing she was doing or buying was making her happy - only keeping her from meeting her goals - she decided to set herself a challenge: she would not shop for an entire year. The Year of Less documents Cait's life for 12 months during which she bought only consumables.

some good lessons and reminders
Reviewed: 01-13-19
I listened to this book while driving to Houston and back, and I have no regrets for listening. I learned some new tips, but also found that many of the situations were not necessarily relevant to my life, age and personal experience. for example, when you have a husband of more than 20 years and a 20 year old son with special needs, your outlook is going to be completely different. That said, I got a couple of good giggles imagining myself in Kate's shoes, I'm going through a life change of learning how to do more with less and this book was most helpful!

The long-awaited autobiography from Phil Collins, one of the best-selling music artists of all time. His success is astounding, his music has global reach, and his story is legendary.

Like Having Coffee With Phil
Reviewed: 01-15-17
Like many 52-year-old American women, I grew up with Genesis and love Peter Gabriel, but it was the heartbeat of those drums that first grabbed my attention, and when Phil Collins finally began to sing, I was hooked for life. I've not followed his life story - only his music. What an absolute delight to listen to him tell it with such honesty. My only regret is that I never saw him on tour, so I really do hope he has more in store for us in Texas.
