Story
Donald Trump will be president again, whether he is on the ballot or not. That is because Trumpism is overtaking the Republican Party and will mount a vigorous comeback, potentially in the hands of a savvier successor. This prophecy will come true, according to Miles Taylor, if we do not learn the lessons of the recent past. With the 2024 election approaching, the formerly “Anonymous” official is back with bombshell revelations and a sobering national forecast. Taylor predicts what could happen inside “Trump 2.0,” the White House of a more competent and more formidable copycat.

This is the 3rd book I listened to by someone who served in the trump admin. The others were Enough, by Cassidy Hutchinson and Oath and Honor, by Liz Cheney. Their individual stories as well as where they overlap in some area, times, & issues help to offer a clearer understanding of what was going on inside the Admin, how it effected some vs others, and ultimately what pushed others to the brink of quitting or getting fired and why others didn't go far enough. I didn't vote for trump ever- and I'm among the many who've criticized those within who waited to speak out, if at all. I now have a better view of the real-time difficulties they had and what it took to finally speak out. Well done Miles. I hope you kept the proceeds from this one. 😉

Story
Erin Blake has one of those names. A name that, like Natalee Holloway or Elizabeth Smart, is inextricably linked to a grisly crime. As a toddler, Erin survived for three days alongside the corpse of her murdered mother, and the case - which remains unsolved - fascinated a nation. Her father's identity unknown, Erin was taken in by her mother's best friend and has become a relatively normal teen in spite of the looming questions about her past.

I dig a good mystery, forensics, whodunit. Even though I'm an adult & the main characters are high school kids + it's narrated in the 1st person by one of them, it didn't feel exclusively targeted at that audience. A bit Nancy Drew-Hardy boys vibe, but set in current times. 👍

Story
"My father had more than 50 children." So begins the haunting memoir of Anna LeBaron, daughter of the notorious polygamist and murderer Ervil LeBaron. With her father wanted by the FBI for killing anyone who tried to leave his cult - a radical branch of Mormonism - Anna and her siblings were constantly on the run with the other sister-wives. Often starving and always desperate, the children lived in terror. Even though there were dozens of them together, Anna always felt alone.

Well done, informative, eye-opening. Bravo! As a white woman with so many friends of different backgrounds, how have I never truly realized how [not] normal it's always been to hear stories mostly about trials & tribulations, murders and missing persons who are white far more than those of other races, cultures, and religions. As with so many things in society, unless or until it effects you or someone close to you- or as in this case, lands in your lap as a podcast or book, it makes sense that you wouldn't be as aware as you may think you are. Nothing surprises me anymore. I truly hope that the mom featured in this story ultimately does get justice for her daughter; and that media in general, steps up more to play a bigger role in helping solve other cases w those of all walks of life, not only certain ones.
