Story
Duchess Day Radley is a 13-year-old self-proclaimed outlaw. Rules are for other people. She is the fierce protector of her five-year-old brother, Robin, and the parent to her mother, Star, a single mom incapable of taking care of herself, let alone her two kids. Walk has never left the coastal California town where he and Star grew up. He may have become the chief of police, but he’s still trying to heal the old wound of having given the testimony that sent his best friend, Vincent King, to prison decades before. And he's in overdrive protecting Duchess and her brother.

Story
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

Loved all the stories and the varying lengths. There are some great lines that made me laugh out loud within some stories that could only come from Stephen King. If you are a fan, you’ll know what I mean. Lots of bookmarks for me in this one.

Story
Hardy's first major literary success, here brought to life by narrator Nathaniel Parker, is the story of the independent and spirited Bathsheba Everdene, who inherits her uncle's farm, the largest estate in the area. She surprises the villagers of Weatherbury by deciding to run it herself. Attracted to this bold young woman are three suitors all vying for her affections. They include the lonely gentleman-farmer Boldwood, the young and handsome but inconsiderate Sergeant Troy and the faithful shepherd Gabriel Oak.

A Wonderfully written story that will make you laugh and cry and all in between. Narration is perfect. The language of the time is melodious and pleasing to listen to. Loaded with interesting phrases/descriptions unused today that I found entertaining.

Few writers can make something feel so real the way Rebecca Makkai has in this book. Every person, every place, every situation….you are there, you can see it all. It is a beautifully written book. In addition, the narration was perfection. I am sad to be finished.

Story
American journalist, short story writer, and poet, Ambrose Bierce is best known for his formidably vicious wit - given free rein in his famous column, "The Prattler." But his stories were elegantly crafted, with a compelling blend of realistic detail, clever plot twists, and his own sardonic humor. These 8 macabre stories, read here by Mark Hammer, establish Bierce as a master of the genre.

It is not the The ghost stories that will get your attention as much as the narrator’s skill of telling them. His voice and cadence are perfect for these fun short stories.
