Story
Ryder, Garrett, Kenzo, and Diesel - The Vipers. Their deals are as sordid as their business, and their reputation is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, forcing him to beg for mercy. They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses. Yes, sold me. They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. But I’ve never been meek and compliant.

Story
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

as always I love the romance, the story, and the Easter eggs referring to her other books. I only had a hard time listening to this one because the narrator kept replacing every v with a b and I could barely stand it.

i feel bad insulting another human being brave enough to read a book and be recorded doing so but i just couldn't get through it. his "accent" was just awful, he sounded like he just had a lisp half the time and the pauses and poor flow was so distracting i missed chunks of the story trying to force myself not to focus on it. i'm not sure i'll even be able to finish listening ): and i loooove nora roberts and the first book was wonderful. why switch narrators? all her other trilogies had the same narrator through all three and it was fine that way!!

Story
If you have not read anything about the Baudelaire orphans, then before you read even one more sentence, you should know this: Violet, Klaus, and Sunny are kindhearted and quick-witted, but their lives, I am sorry to say, are filled with bad luck and misery. All of the stories about these three children are unhappy and wretched, and this one may be the worst of them all.
