Repetitive
Reviewed: 12-04-24
I get trying to recap a scenario because it's flipping back and forth between two people in different locations but it was just too repetitive repeating basically the same story all over again multiple times so it felt like the whole book was really just a half book. Content wasn't horrible though.

Story
The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

The Manipulator. I can manipulate the emotions of anyone who lets me. I will make you hurt, make you cry, make you laugh and sigh. But my words don't affect him. Especially not when I plead for him to leave. He's always there, watching and waiting. And I can never look away. Not when I want him to come closer. The Shadow. I didn't mean to fall in love. But now that I have, I can't stay away. I'm mesmerized by her smile, by her eyes, and the way she moves. I'll keep watching and waiting. Until I can make her mine. And once she is, I'll never let her go.

This isn't spicy, it's rape fantasy w child porn
Reviewed: 03-19-24
I'm all for spicy books but this crosses a line. I can honestly say this book is an example of why men brush off the seriousness of rape victims. The main characters is 'supposedly' bringing awareness to how numb and blind society is to pedophilia and SA yet this same author is then narrating child abuse in detail that no one needs and has the main character rape the main girl with a loaded gun while she's crying in fear. How arrogant this author must have to be, to appeal to his audience that the topic is vile while also then turning it into a fantasy and making money off of it. That's a clever way to prove a point. This isn't about trigger warnings...this is out being a decent fucking human being and recognizing evil in plain sight as a "spicy thriller". There's ways to tell stories about dark shit without glorifying it.

Story
To the Green-Eyed Lovebird: We met 15 years ago, almost to the day, when I moved my stuff into the NYU dorm room next to yours at Senior House. You called us fast friends. I like to think it was more. We lived on nothing but the excitement of finding ourselves through music (you were obsessed with Jeff Buckley), photography (I couldn’t stop taking pictures of you), hanging out in Washington Square Park, and all the weird things we did to make money. I learned more about myself that year than any other. Yet, somehow, it all fell apart.

Story
They say love and hate are the same feelings experienced under different circumstances, and it's true. The man who comes to me in my dreams also haunts me in my nightmares. He is a brilliant lawyer. A skilled criminal. A beautiful liar. A bully and a savior, a monster and a lover. Ten years ago, he made me run away from the small town where we lived. Now, he came for me in New York, and he isn't leaving until he takes me with him.

Female Voice & Storyline
Reviewed: 05-10-21
I like the female readers voice but she should have saved the sexual breathy aspect for the parts where it was applicable. It got really annoying hearing that throughout the entire book.
Story was OK but I'm really not into over sexualising relationships between juveniles. There's also a line when it comes to a man insulting, degrading a woman. Domination and Demeaning are separate and I think this author went on the demeaning side too much.

A Little Too Cheesy
Reviewed: 03-05-21
This book had such potential to be amazing With good characters fantastic storyline and enough realisme in the situations that was exciting… But then they threw in a few little things that were just too cheesy and overly dramatic. Let's be real somebody is not going to lose consciousness for a day and have hallucinations because they burned their hand. Over all it was a cute little intro read to the Apocalypse genre

I wasn't quite sure if I was going to enjoy this book because it almost sounded like a documentary/ technical writing, but it was so beautifully put together with 1st hand accounts, interview statements, and expert testimony that this is by far one of my favorite listens! I love the little inserts that experts would weigh-in on in reference to the stories emotions or phenomenons that Alvarenga spoke about.
