Story
This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

Absolute trash. Nonstop cliches and poor writing
Reviewed: 12-05-20
I could not finish this. It's one of the worst long form books I've ever read. This author's writing style is to trot out every literary trope and make it a superlative (the most orphaned orphan). Then he stacks them one after another. The main character first meets a mentor figure (think Obi Wan Kenobi) then becomes an orphan/cut purse (think Oliver Twist) and then goes to College as a brilliant protege student (think any Wizard story ever). So basically if you're tired of reading 3 stories- Star Wars, Oliver, Merlin- why not combine all three and pretend it's good writing? For those of you who play D&D you'll get how boring it is to play a Fighter Thief Wizard where the entire book is to justify why every stat is maxed out. Save several hours of your life and don't listen to this book. Do something more productive like pounding your face repeatedly through dry wall or pulling your leg hairs out one by one. At least after you'll have something to show for it.

Story
Mattie Ross, a 14-year-old girl from Dardanelle, Arkansas, sets out to avenge her Daddy who was shot to death by a no-good outlaw. Mattie convinces one-eyed "Rooster" Cogburn, the meanest U.S. marshal in the land, to ride along with her. In True Grit, we have a true American classic, as young Mattie, as vital as she is innocent, outdickers and outmaneuvers the hard-bitten men of the trail in a legend that will last through the ages.

fantastic story. I cannot emphasize how perfect and poignant the dialogue is in terms of the writer's ability to capture the times. narrator did a fine job in the main chsrscter herself but the rest of the primary characters are cowboys and the audio book would have benefited much from have a good gravelly old male narrator reading those parts. all in all still worth a read for sure.

Story
You can't change your fate - so throw yourself into battle, because you'll either win or wake up drinking mead in the halls of your ancestors. That's what Finn's tribe believe. But when their settlement is massacred by a hostile tribe and Finn and several friends, companions, and rivals make their escape across a brutal, unfamiliar landscape, Finn will fight harder than he's ever fought in his life. He wants to live - even if he lives only long enough to tell Thyri Treelegs how he feels about her.

Story
In a steel-and-lead-encased bunker 20 feet below the basement level of his house, a soldier waits for his final orders. On the surface, a plague ravages the planet, infecting over 90% of the populace. The bacterium burrows through the brain, destroying all signs of humanity and leaving behind little more than base, prehistoric instincts. The infected turn into hyper-aggressive predators, with an insatiable desire to kill and feed. Someday soon, the soldier will have to open the hatch to his bunker, and step out into this new wasteland, to complete his mission....

Good Read despite plot holes
Reviewed: 11-02-17
Excellent premise, good narration, terrible "plot twists" and large plot holes. if the main character is supposednl to be such a highly trained badass- why does he consistently make poor choices and leave himself open to get screwed.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Great concept and very good pace throughout the novel. The pace really picks up halfway through with the introduction of a new character and I couldnt stop listening. All military and Space novel junkies will really enjoy this book.

Story
Alfred of Wessex has survived the Danish invasions, but though he now has an uneasy truce with his enemies, fresh Viking ships are arriving to plunder and enslave the Saxons. Those Vikings must be defeated, and Alfred's first move is to deny them their fortress on the Thames, the decayed Roman city of London. His weapon is Uhtred, a warrior of formidable reputation. But neither Alfred's wisdom, not Uhtred's prowess, might be enough to save Wessex when a Viking lord captures a prize of inestimable value.

The excellent performance by the narrator makes this another excellent listen. The character development was rather lacking as well as overall plot excitement ( compared to other books). Still a very good adventure novel overall

Story
An instant best seller that is poised to become a classic, Moonwalking with Einstein recounts Joshua Foer's yearlong quest to improve his memory under the tutelage of top "mental athletes". He draws on cutting-edge research, a surprising cultural history of remembering, and venerable tricks of the mentalist's trade to transform our understanding of human memory. From the United States Memory Championship to deep within the author's own mind, this is an electrifying work of journalism that reminds us that, in every way that matters, we are the sum of our memories.

This story was very interesting and easy to listen to. The book delves into the mechanics of memory and memory competitions just enough to help the reader learn the concepts but not too deep to leave the reader bored. It will definitely spark your curiosity into learning more about your own memory capabilities.
