Story
It began on New Year’s Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world’s population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magick rose up in its place.

Reviewed: 02-14-18
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
All about demons and angels and new age people with magical powers...sounds interesting, but actually drags on and on with no remedy in sight...trying to suffer through....I'm on Chapter 24 of 26...wondering if there will be any relief at the end.
What was most disappointing about Nora Roberts’s story?
Not an interesting story.
Which scene was your favorite?
The very limited romantic scene at the beginning of the book.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment...I have suffered through the last 10 chapters waiting for something interesting...but now at chapter 24 of 26 and don't think its going to happen.
Any additional comments?
I have read several other Nora Roberts books and this one was a huge disappointment.

Story
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

Great Storywriter but too long
Reviewed: 01-23-18
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Of course Stephen King is a brilliant story writer, but this book is too long to be enjoyable. Few people have 40 plus hours to listen to audio. It takes so long to get through this book that its easy to get lost in the story, forget the earlier characters and chapters-this creates a disjointed listening experience.
If you’ve listened to books by Stephen King before, how does this one compare?
This is another fabulous Stephen King book. More detailed than other books because it is over 40 hour long.
Do you think It needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I haven't finished the book and probably will not so cannot comment on the need for a follow up.
Any additional comments?
I prefer a book that I can absorb in a week or two-I can't do that with an audio book over 40 hours long.

Story
We expect our judges to be honest and wise. Their integrity and impartiality are the bedrock of the entire judicial system. We trust them to ensure fair trials, to protect the rights of all litigants, to punish those who do wrong, and to oversee the orderly and efficient flow of justice. But what happens when a judge bends the law or takes a bribe? It’s rare, but it happens. Lacy Stoltz is an investigator for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct. She is a lawyer, not a cop, and it is her job to respond to complaints dealing with judicial misconduct.

Story
In the town of Ada, Oklahoma, Ron Williamson was going to be the next Mickey Mantle. But on his way to the Big Leagues, Ron stumbled, his dreams broken by drinking, drugs, and women. Then, on a winter night in 1982, not far from Ron’s home, a young cocktail waitress named Debra Sue Carter was savagely murdered. The investigation led nowhere. Until, on the flimsiest evidence, it led to Ron Williamson. The washed-up small-town hero was charged, tried, and sentenced to death - in a trial littered with lying witnesses and tainted evidence....

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
No excitement, No compelling reason to continue listening.
What was most disappointing about John Grisham’s story?
The whole thing is just one depressing drawn out melancholy story about hey man's demise from his teenage years.
What about Craig Wasson’s performance did you like?
Performance was very adequate. I think he did well with what he has to work with.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Innocent Man?
This entire book it Is about how depressing and unfair Life can be. I listen to books to be entertained, not to make my life depressing.
Any additional comments?
Such a disappointment. I am an avid John Grisham fan. This is nothing like his legal thrillers. This is an exhaustive drawn out death.

The whole thing is completely far fetched and hence a comedy
Has Skinny Dip turned you off from other books in this genre?
No.
What does Stephen Hoye bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He IS the story...he is the only reason I tolerated this book to its equally disappointing end. He was a great narrator for this book and I will look for him again (with another author)
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disbelief that the author would think ANYONE would buy this plot even for a second.
Any additional comments?
Although the plot is pretty bad, the author is very funny with his sarcasm.

Excruciatingly Slow and Boring
Reviewed: 05-28-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone who likes excruciatingly slow acting with no action in the plot.
What could the authors have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Maybe there is a story to this. I don't know. I'm on chapter 8 out of 80 chapters and so far in the several hours that I've listened to there was about 10 minutes of anything interesting and about 4 minutes of slightly sexual excitement-no excitement is a stretch. If there is a story to this, please get to the point and shorten this by about 80%
Which scene was your favorite?
There is only a few minutes of anything that is not completely boring...and that was the pg-rated sex innuendos.
What character would you cut from 1Q84?
All
Any additional comments?
Almost an hour of describing a tea cup, difference between tea and coffee, talking about nothing in particular to a taxi driver, a butterfly...what is this-someone's idea of seeing how much a reader will tolerate. I will not do like others and listen for 30 hours before giving up...Im giving up now. The reason I gave the performance a good rating is because the actress is presenting the way the author obviously wanted...with more excruciating drawn out pronunciations of every syllable.

Amos Decker's life changed forever - twice. The first time was on the gridiron. A big, towering athlete, he was the only person from his hometown of Burlington ever to go pro. But his career ended before it had a chance to begin. On his very first play, a violent helmet-to-helmet collision knocked him off the field for good and left him with an improbable side effect - he can never forget anything.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I usually love Balducci. He is a talented writer. I believe I could have read this book until the end if I was reading it. Cannot recommend the audible version.
Would you ever listen to anything by David Baldacci again?
Not with this actor/actress. The woman's voice and tonality was difficult to tolerate. I don't like the overly angry narration. A good actor/actress can evoke emotion without having to rely on 'angry tone' for the entire narration!
How could the performance have been better?
Use different actor/actress.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Possibly, depending on who was acting in the production.
Any additional comments?
I am going to hope that this is an exception to the rule of Balducci's usually excellent quality books.

On the right side of the law. Sort of. Sebastian Rudd is not your typical street lawyer. He works out of a customized bulletproof van, complete with Wi-Fi, a bar, a small fridge, fine leather chairs, a hidden gun compartment, and a heavily armed driver. He has no firm, no partners, no associates, and only one employee: his driver, who's also his bodyguard, law clerk, confidant, and golf caddy.
