Story
What if you could travel back in time 100 years and right the wrongs of the past—would you take the risk? “Sundown: A Time Travel Society Mystery” is a wildly imaginative podcast from Michael Dante DiMartino, the co-creator of the animated classics “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and “The Legend of Korra.” “Sundown” explores the story of a group of teens who go back into the past and uncover secrets about themselves, their families, their town—and America. 17-year-old Darius Hightower (played by Emmy-nominated actor Asante Blackk of “When They See Us”) is just about the only Black person in his small New England town of Norhaven. Adopted by a wealthy white family when he was a baby, Darius has learned to keep his head down and not challenge his family or its history. But when the outspoken Sanaa Starr (played by NAACP Image Award-winner Storm Reid of “Euphoria”) transfers to his high school and starts asking questions, Darius re-examines the truth about his ancestors’ involvement in the town’s most infamous murder. A time capsule from 1920 may hold some clues, but when Norhaven’s most powerful conspire to destroy its contents, it’s up to Darius, Sanaa, and their friends (including “Reservation Dogs” star Devery Jacobs) to investigate what really happened. After a strange incident sends them back 100 years to the scene of the crime, their fact-finding mission becomes life-or-death. Forced to confront their town’s prejudiced past, the teens race against time in order save an innocent man’s life and clear his name. “Sundown” is a sci-fi mystery adventure like you’ve never heard before.

Wow! This is SO well done! I couldn’t stop listening! There was a great amount of suspense, and the acting was great as well. It really showed a lot of the sad truth of true history. And it brought up a lot of issues that have seemingly been swept under the rug. This is very, very well done. And the story flowed so well. I was on the edge of my seat through much of it! Amazing job. I hope that even more of this series is released. It’s amazing.

Boring and the accents are terrible
Reviewed: 08-27-22
This book comes across as being racist. Especially the person that reads the part about the Mexicans. I can’t even listen to this. It’s also incredibly boring. I’m a few hours in, and the story hasn’t even developed yet. I have no idea what the point is of this book. The only “Legend” is how they got so many people to narrate a single, terribly written book.

Terribly boring, horrible acting
Reviewed: 07-27-22
The acting and script are awful. I have tried several times to get through the first episode, hoping it would get better. It didn’t. It’s just the main detective muttering to herself about how she’s awesome because she’s not on social media. Completely unnecessary rambling. The main detective should have been cast as someone that did not sound like a drone. Her acting might work in movies, where there are visuals to distract you from her terrible acting, but it doesn’t work with an already abysmal audio-only script. It was very difficult to picture anything that was happening within the scenes. I am just happy it was included with membership and I didn’t have to waste a single dollar on it.

Loretta Pacheco has a cool job at an electric car company. Her life finally seems headed in the right direction. But in a flash, it all starts to fall apart. What were the strange voices she heard as she lay injured by the side of the road? Why, exactly, did two young boys disappear all those years ago? And what is this strange sound in her head?

Pretty terrible
Reviewed: 11-21-21
The acting is awful. I’m sure it’s a lovely story. But the acting leaves much to be desired. Not only that, but the actual script for the full cast was deplorable. Like, I understand that this is about Hispanic people. That doesn’t mean you have to say “ay yai yai!” in every other sentence. I am not Hispanic, but it’s still offensive.
There was also a lot of empty chatter that really did not contribute to the story at all. And everything was just so FAKE… This is the first story by a full cast that I have absolutely hated. The story, the performance, the script… All of it is terrible. Even though this was free, I still want a refund of my wasted time.

I LOVED this! All the actors were stellar. I forgot I was listening to a story. It was such a production! It really drew me in. And I loved that I recognized so many voices! It was funny, intense at moments, and sooo intriguing. I could not stop listening! I hope there will be similar podcasts. I am sad this one is over.

Awful
Reviewed: 01-11-21
The introduction is 27 minutes of rambling. 27 minutes. The next story starts with an intro, too. Once the actual story starts, even the narrator cannot rescue it. I should have known it would not be good writing just by the horrendously long and boring introduction. I was really looking forward to this. If I could get a refund for this free story, I would.

Finally, a GOOD lesbian paranormal story! I have been searching for something like this! The only thing I do not like is that this is the only book from this author that Audible carries! Hopefully, there will be many more from her! This is a lovely story and is very believable! The amount of suspense was just right, and I couldn’t stop listening! I eagerly await the next book!

I thought that this may be a bit cheesy. But for less than $3, that’s ok, right? No. This was an awful, awful story. Not only was the writing terrible, but the narrator was also horrible. Even for erotica, this was well below sub par.

I loved both books in this series! They got very intense in some chapters, causing my blood pressure to rise...And then they caused me to cry in other chapters... The author really developed all of the characters VERY well. And the narrator really brought all of them to life. It was a great collaboration! I recommend this series!

Great book!
Reviewed: 10-10-19
Of course this was a lovely book. Word of caution, though. This is not the “nice” TV version. A ton of people die in these books and horrible things happen. It is actually closer to reality than the show, just FYI. Most of the stories were not “feel good” stories. So you might want to skip this one directly before bed.
