Story
Life doesn't always go according to plan. For ex-CIA Agent Samuel Caulfield, his plans were ripped out from under him after a chance encounter in a firefight. One deal with a dark goddess later, and he's cast into the trenches of a Victorian world, with clashing empires, Elves, Dwarves, Dragons, and more. Surrounded by death, on the front lines of a war without intelligence, he'll have to rely on his wits, his platoon, and a surprise gift from his goddess.

Stopped listening when the narrator describes Earth as "the creation of a mad god"
Reviewed: 02-13-25
Voice acting was good, but had trouble listening after the aforementioned quote. I guess the author has issues with those that believe in God?? After that I just felt like I was being lectured and talked down to. It made it hard to enjoy the rest of it so I had to stop. The story also is a bit slow moving in the part I left off at.

Story
Reincarnated as the War God—he has a lot to learn to live up to that title. His power is only as good as the skill he possesses to wield it. But there is a reason the former War God fell. He can only dare to imagine what foes lie in wait. He will have to build a team out of a former shield maiden, an elven sorceress intent on hiding her power, a beautiful lycan who doesn't trust anyone and a mortal-hating fire celestial. What could be hard about that?

The story overall is really good. I just wish it didn't have some of the sexual elements that were a little too gross for me and IMHO detracted from the book. The story is good enough to stand on its own. Voice acting was AWESOME. Was sad when the book ended.

Not for me

About 1/3 of the entire story is either reciting stats, saying how beautiful the MC's companions are, or softcore porn. I'm sure some will love that, but it just wasn't for me.

Story
My brother is taking over the family business . . . It was something I'd trained for my entire life. I was more suited for it than he was in almost every way. Except for the most important one . . . the ability he'd inherited from our father. Why wasn't I born with the same powers? I'm leaving the underworld. I don't belong there anymore. Of course, I only have one marketable skill: Kicking ass and taking names. How can I use that to start a new life for myself on Earth? Unfortunately, vigilantism doesn't pay the bills.

A little too crude for me
Reviewed: 09-28-24
When the MC started talking about "Dicking and Dashing" when referring to her just wanting to have sex and then putting down her partner even though she says he was "a catch" then I stopped listening. It made me dislike the character because she sounded crude and hateful towards others. You're supposed to like the MC but her behavior instantly turned me against her. That was when I knew I was done with the book and didn't want to waste my time on the rest of it.

Flameout
Reviewed: 09-14-24
I am giving it 2 stars because the voice acting was good. I never thought I would see a progression story that starts when the MC is an infant, but here we are. It lingers a bit too long at that stage in the MC's life and focuses too much time on repeating the same words every time they level up. We get it. I don't know but I got super frustrated hearing it over and over.

I kinda hate the main character...
Reviewed: 10-12-23
She has checked out of her arranged marriage, not even trying to make it work. There's no physical intimacy between the two and she wonders why her husband drinks a lot and goes gambling. Don't get me wrong, he's responsible for his own actions, but can anyone blame him for wanting to be away from home as much as possible? Not to mention how she is to blame for her twin sister's death. Then the guy the MC was always in love with comes back into her life and she suddenly forgets her child is in danger and in need of rescuing. It makes me kind of hate her. If that was the author's goal, then mission accomplished. It has other interesting characters in the story and the voice acting is solid. I just wish the way the MC is written didn't make me hate her so much. She's a horrible person.

Why?
Reviewed: 01-03-23
Story sounded interesting, but then at the very beginning one of the characters masterbates. Why would anyone want to hear this being told in a story??? Very disappointed because the story sounded interesting, but I'm not remotely interested in hearing any character pleasure themselves.
