Rejects the ones who need help the most
Reviewed: 09-18-22
This is an insensitive narrow minded view of mental health. It’s dangerous to reject the ones who are suffering and broken hearted the most. It discounts factors of abuse that results in mental health issues. It’s true sin is a problem for us humans, however many suffer from the sins done to them also. Pure religion is the one who cares for widows and orphans, not rejects and condemns them.

Story
Drawing on their own cross cultural experience in global mission, O'Brien and Richards show how better self-awareness and understanding of cultural differences in language, time, and social mores allow us to see the Bible in fresh and unexpected ways. Getting beyond our own cultural assumptions is increasingly important for being Christians in our interconnected and globalized world. Learn to read Scripture as a member of the global body of Christ.

Blinders!

Wow it barely scratches the surface on cultural blinders when it come to reading the Bible. At the very least it caused me to be more mindful of my upbringing and individualistic culture in the US. I am so thankful this is on Audible because it is a required reading for one of my classes. I was able to listen to the whole thing before class on Monday. Now I’m pumped! I will still refer to the electronic version during my studies but I have a good overview before class. I am so thankful!

Story
The secret behind France's astonishingly well-behaved children is here. When American journalist Pamela Druckerman has a baby in Paris, she doesn't aspire to become a "French parent". French parenting isn't a known thing, like French fashion or French cheese. Even French parents themselves insist they aren't doing anything special. But French children are far better behaved and more in command of themselves than American kids....

An American point of view of Paris parenting
Reviewed: 12-30-18
I loved how interesting and honest the book was. The author was comparing and contrasting the differences between the two cultures, specifically parenting. It isn’t that France does everything better, it’s that they may be more in touch with a old way of parenting that has always worked for them. Although, my children are much older 7, 9, 15 I still gleaned a few parenting tips.

Are you consumed with a busy life but unsure how to slow down? Do you desire connection within your community and think, Absolutely, but I don't have time for that or I can't create that? What if there was another way through it all, a way to find those moments of peace and to create a time for honest, comfortable connection? What if meeting neighbors and connecting with friends was as simple as showing up and being available?

Meet your neighbors like the old days
Reviewed: 07-12-18
This reminds me of my childhood! I knew every kid in my neighborhood. I would like to help create a sense of community right where I am. I would truly like to connect with others right where I am. Also the art of hospitality doesn’t have to be expensive, stressful or hard!
