Story
Cat Anderson doesn’t want much out of life. Give her a circle of friends to giggle with, a few cute boys to flirt with, and she is good to go! She is perfectly content...until a scheduling mishap on her first day of 8th grade places her in a culinary arts class. Food, it turns out, is a very big deal. In her family there is a secret, too big to stay hidden any longer. A secret too fantastic to be real. Something happens when Cat bakes. Something impossible. Can it be true? Or is it bake believe?

Cute story for the younger generation
Reviewed: 08-07-21
The storyline was wonderful for a young adult who wants to believe in some version of magic. The baking of emotions was something I wasn’t expecting and I appreciated the puns that went into this book. The narrator didn’t hit the mark for me, personally, but I have only ever listened to two audiobooks and have discovered that it isn’t my cup of tea. For anyone who enjoys audiobooks and thoroughly enjoys this genre, I think this would be a fantastic listen. My favorite parts were the recipes and the silliness involved with telling the reader how to make the things in each chapter. I definitely plan to make some of these as soon as possible.

Story
With an existential crisis looming over his head, Asher needs a break from reaping souls. But when he leaves his door to the underworld unattended, one escaped ghost threatens to turn the French Quarter into a haven for the hell-bound. Oh, and that crisis he was trying to escape? Her name is Jasmine Lee, and she could be the death of him. The literal death of Death. Yep. You heard that right. She’s never met a ghost she can’t tame, but when a thousand ornery spirits descend upon New Orleans, her secret weakness is a recipe for phantasmal disaster.

When a reaper takes a vacation...
Reviewed: 08-03-21
This was my first book by Carrie Pulkinen and my VERY first time listening to a book rather than reading it. I am content with the audio version but tend to create different voices in my head when I read. It threw me off a bit that this book would have normally taken at least half the time to read, but it helped allow me to do other things while I got to submerge myself into a paranormal-filled world. The story itself was great, the narration was well-done, and the characters' dialogue made me laugh out loud a few times. I never knew that a reaper would want to take a vacation, nor that doing so could create such a great narrative. I loved both main characters and hope to see more of them in future books right after I go back and read the ones I missed so far!
