Story
It began in a women's club in London on a February afternoon. A discreet advertisement in The Times, addressed to "Those who Appreciate Wistaria and Sunshine..." lures four very different women away from the dismal British weather to San Salvatore, a castle high above a bay on the sunny Italian Riviera. There, the Mediterranean spirit stirs the souls of Mrs Arbuthnot, Mrs Wilkins, Lady Caroline Dester, and Mrs Fisher, and remarkable changes occur.

Story
A visit to her local prison brings DI Vera Stanhope face to face with an old enemy: former detective superintendent, and now inmate, John Brace. Brace was convicted of corruption and involvement in the death of a gamekeeper—and Vera played a key part in his downfall. Now, Brace promises Vera information about the disappearance of Robbie Marshall, a notorious wheeler-dealer who disappeared in the mid-nineties, if she will look out for his daughter and grandchildren. He tells her that Marshall is dead, and that his body is buried close to St Mary’s Island in Whitley Bay.

Previous books in the series were somewhat implausible. The ending of this one is nicely tied together and that along with the indomitable Vera, stylish Holly, and plodding Joe make this just about perfect.

Life seems perfect in the quiet community of Valley Farm. Then a shocking discovery shatters the silence. The owners of a big country house have employed a house sitter, a young ecologist, to look after the place while they're away. But his dead body is found by the side of the lane - a lonely place to die. When DI Vera Stanhope arrives on the scene, she finds the body of a second man. What the two victims seem to have in common is a fascination with studying moths - and with catching these beautiful, intriguing creatures.

Too Many Red Herrings!
Reviewed: 12-19-18
The redoubtable Vera is back as fiesty as ever and the set up for the mystery involving two victims obsessed with rare moths is engaging. Couples parents and children are all part of the plot and Cleeves really knows how to deploy dysfunctional families in creating tension and suspense. Unfortunately the ending arrives out of the blue and there are too few genuine clues along the way to make the reader feel part of Vera’s sudden solution.

Enjoy one of the original closed circle mysteries. The suspects all know each other. Or do they? They're all very civilized and circumspect. Or are they? The secrets gradually unfold and the resolution is expertly revealed. No blood, no gore, no car chases. But the genius of Agatha Christie will keep you entranced.#Suspense #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Story
If you've ever laughed your way through David Sedaris's cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you're getting with Calypso. You'd be wrong. When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And it's as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: it's impossible to take a vacation from yourself. With Calypso, Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation - and dark humor - toward middle age and mortality.

She's not afraid to confront people with their delusions but also enables the couples she counsels to express their love and support for each other. I admit to a few dysfunctional relationships myself so I could really identify with some of these patients. Eye opening! Hard to picture DCI Vera Stanhope as a gym rat but that's the lead in to this one. Vera isn't into happy families so there are many dicey relationships and family secrets to add intrigue to the plot. The narration is superb but have to admit I'm a sucker for British accents. #Female Protagonist #Suspense #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

A brilliant mystery enhanced by unusually well developed characters. Also as interesting as the plot is the shifting dynamic between private detective Strike and his assistant Robin as they dance around each other unwilling to admit their true feelings. Not to mention the class/political struggles going on between the suspects. A winner on all counts! #Suspense #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes
