Story
Comedians Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld never thought anyone would watch their silly little sitcom about a New York comedian sitting around talking to his friends. NBC executives didn't think anyone would watch either, but they bought it anyway, hiding it away in the TV dead zone of summer. But against all odds, viewers began to watch, first a few and then many, until nine years later nearly 40 million Americans were tuning in weekly.

Story
Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

Great follow up to Ready Player One
Reviewed: 07-27-15
Though this book is not in the same story as Ready Player One it shares the author's love of pop culture sci-fi, television, game, and music references from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s. It was a fun romp and was well narrated by Wil Weaton. I now find that I want to dig out old video games, music, and movies having completed this book. Well done and looking forward to what this author writes next.

Story
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Preachy and implausible.

The forward is by Newt Gingrich if you want a preview of the political slant of this book. It comes off as anti-government. I would suggest Tomorrow War instead.

Suffused with 80s geek culture!
Reviewed: 07-21-14
Would you listen to Ready Player One again? Why?
This was an amazing audio book narrated by Wil Wheaton. The 80s geek culture references come early and often throughout the book making it one of the few that I couldn't stop listening to.
What other book might you compare Ready Player One to and why?
Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Snow Crash, Jennifer Goverent
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Adventures in cyberspace.

Story
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Decent story ... annoying dialog.
Reviewed: 09-11-12
Would you listen to Redshirts again? Why?
No. The voice acting on this book was non-existent. I like Wil Wheaton but he doesn't use any voices. Compounding this problem is that whoever wrote Wil's script kept in all of the "he said", "she said", "they said" after every line of dialog which gets to be as distracting as someone who has a vocal tic.
What other book might you compare Redshirts to and why?
I would compare this story to something like the movies "Galaxy Quest" and "Stranger Than Fiction".
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I found that the book had some interesting metaphysical questions that were addressed in writing a sci-fi series or story. However, I found the reading of the book annoyed me.
Any additional comments?
I think that the book is a good idea but it would have been performed better.
