Story
King Shrewd is dead at the hands of his son Regal. As is Fitz - or so his enemies and friends believe. But with the help of his allies and his beast magic, he emerges from the grave, deeply scarred in body and soul. The kingdom also teeters toward ruin: Regal has plundered and abandoned the capital, while the rightful heir, Prince Verity, is lost to his mad quest - perhaps to death. Only Verity's return - or the heir his princess carries - can save the Six Duchies.

Breathtaking Storytelling

Robin Hobb is one of the greats, and should be on lists with the likes of Tolkien, Beagle, Sanderson, and Martin. This is my second favorite fantasy series of all time. (Tolkien always wins)

With unforgettable characters, a sweeping backdrop, and passionate storytelling, this is a fantasy debut to rival that of Robert Jordan. Filled with adventure and bloodshed, pageantry and piracy, mystery and menace, Assassin's Apprentice is the story of a royal house and the young man who is destined to chart its course through tempests of change.

I love Fantasy. I’ve read LOTR, at least once a year, since I was eleven; Jordan, Sanderson, Beagle, Tolkien, Hobb (In no particular order) are my top five favorite world builders now. You can feel these books. To end it all with a flourish, it also has, one of the best closing lines I have ever read.

The books were good, but I don’t think I would have enjoyed them nearly as much if it weren’t for the great narration.

Story
In an era of hardening religious attitudes and explosive religious violence, this book offers a welcome antidote. Richard Holloway retells the entire history of religion - from the dawn of religious belief to the 21st century - with deepest respect and a keen commitment to accuracy. Writing for those with faith and those without, and especially for young listeners, he encourages curiosity and tolerance, accentuates nuance and mystery and calmly restores a sense of the value of faith.

This book is perfect for adults and older kids who are interested in the facts behind world religions and not just the dogma. The text is very well written in a narrative fashion, so you feel like you are listening to a story, and the narrator is absolute perfection. Highly recommend.

I used to love Amy Poehler. Now, I pretty sure I am IN love with her. She is the (slightly, but I'll take it) older soul sister that I always wished I'd had. This book is at once hysterical, moving, irreverent, poignant, and straight up truth. I laughed. I cried. It became a part of me.
