Story
Lieutenant Anthony Pacino reports aboard the “project boat” USS Vermont two years after having survived the catastrophic sinking of the Piranha. Pacino quickly learns that Vermont’s missions are all ultra-secret with the boat reporting only to the sub force commander, the national security advisor, and the president: Vermont does the dirty deeds that need doing in deadly silence and obscurity. After Vermont misses the mark on an easy mission, there are questions asked about her ability to conduct the next mission.

Got through the first three chapters or so and put it down. This book "reads" as though written by an adolescent. Very jumbled and confusing. Disappointed as I am a big fan of submarine stories.

Story
On Thursday, October 14, 1943, 291 B-17 Flying Fortresses set out for a strategic bombing raid on the factories in Schweinfurt. Sixty of those planes never returned and 650 men were lost during the course of that mission. It was the greatest failure that the United States Air Force had ever suffered and became known as "Black Thursday". Martin Caidin's Black Thursday: The Story of the Schweinfurt Raid is a brilliant account of that day that should never be forgotten. This audiobook uncovers in thrilling detail the build-up to that fateful raid.

Story
The story of Tang and her gallant crew ranks with the most amazing of naval history. Between August 1943 when she was commissioned and her loss in fall 1944, Tang completed four missions and was on her fifth in the Formosa Strait, single-handedly demolishing a convey. During this time, Tang had one captain: Commander Richard Hetherington O'Kane. Together, Tang, her crew of 86 men, and her captain sank more tonnage and more enemy ships than any other submarine on active patrol.

Very interesting history and information from a brave young man. But, this book is unfortunately a perfect example of why an author shouldn't read his own work. Clumsy and stilted performance detracts from the listen overall.

Story
Venice, a really long time ago: Three prominent Venetians await their most loathsome and foul dinner guest, the erstwhile envoy from Britain who also happens to be a favorite of the Doge: The rascal-Fool Pocket. This trio of cunning plotters have lured Pocket to a dark dungeon, promising a spirited evening. Their invitation is, of course, bogus. These scoundrels have something far less amusing planned for the man who has consistently foiled their quest for power and wealth. But this Fool is no fool.…

Weak characters, rather unbelievable story. This not Grisham's best. Seems like he's now consumed with his author fame and enjoys about writing about schmoozing with other authors. We really don't care, John.

Story
Homicide is always an abomination, but there is something exceptionally disturbing about the victim discovered in a high, lonely place: a corpse with a mouth full of sand, abandoned at a crime scene seemingly devoid of tracks or useful clues. Though it goes against his better judgment, Navajo tribal police lieutenant Joe Leaphorn cannot help but suspect the hand of a supernatural killer.

I expected more from Hillerman, This is a really weak story with no character development and far too much esoteric Navajo stuff. Could have been a short story, but still with a weak plot.

Scott Brick doesn't help
Reviewed: 03-29-20
Scott Brick doesn't help this otherwise good, but a bit drawn out, story. I don't know why he has to emote so much. He frankly ruins what could otherwise be a decent listen, allowing the listener to assign whatever degree of emotion he or she desires instead of Brick's constant theatrics.
Makes me hesitate to download more DeMille, because his stories are generally entertaining.
