I’m clearly not the target audience for this book—even though I thought I would be. But, this started its life as Reylo fanfic and I’m just not a huge fan of the dynamic. Stops being about the fantasy war and starts being just about interpersonal conflicts about 12 chapters in and I was expecting more external conflict. Not the worst book I’ve ever read, it’s not even actually bad. It’s just not for me.

Should a prince battle his way to the top, he will be rewarded with a golden sword - and the lovely Princess Floralinda. But no prince has managed to conquer the first flight yet, let alone get to the 40th. In fact, the supply of fresh princes seems to have quite dried up.

I just have one question...
Reviewed: 06-22-21
Why did they name their daughter after the name of the villain from the first series? Like. Seriously. That has bugged me ever since I first listened to this and it's been years. I literally can't fathom this. Like the big bad from the series is named Sam. They named their kid something that they shorten to Sami. I really don't get it.
Like, it's frustrating enough that it undoes all the character development from the 2nd series, but like... I can't get over this.

I still can't decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me. Then there's Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn't felt anything for a hundred years.

The title says it all. Full review will be available on my blog if I can edit in a link later.
Dnf: 73% right after she tells him she “knows who he really is” after one week of knowing him, in an effort to make him feel better about his attempted murder.
Short version: If you think this will be fun, it isn’t. Amazing start, like 5/5 first few chapters. Then we enter the slippery slope of Insta Love and it gets disgusting. I don’t think this book passes the Bechdel Test either. Once she meets the guy she never shuts up about him.

I really wanted to like this one, but, I just... the rampant sexism, racism, and the main character are all just exhausting when combined together. The racism and sexism are contextual, but man, it's still just a little too much. I'm really sorry, I really wanted to like it, but I'm honestly just bored.

There's nothing more disgusting than listening to a guy talk about how much he wants to have sex with a girl, while simultaneously listening to her verbally tell him to stop, and that she's not interested. I do not CARE what her "body" says. I do not care about this insane bonding thing. Della might kiss him, but the fact that she is constantly yelling at him, and saying no, and telling him she's not interested, means Chase needs to go throw himself into a volcano for literally trying to see her nipples in one scene.

So I feel like the author has no faith in her audience. We get explained characters multiple times within a couple chapters. Yes. We know that this dude is a member of the guard and a friend to Casper. You told us that last chapter. We KNOW the king isn’t exactly talkative, stop telling us every time he opens his mouth. She talks down to us and it’s kind of... exhausting.
