Story
The year is 1901, and the hustle and bustle of the holidays is descending on New York's Fifth Avenue. For the first time in her privileged life, Adelaide Forsythe couldn’t be happier about the prospect of a quiet Christmas. That’s not to say her transition from Missto Mrs. has been without challenge. Though she doesn’t regret marrying for love instead of wealth, she feels woefully unprepared to run her own household. Then, on the first Sunday of Advent, winter winds bring surprising change, first through a young orphan boy and then a seasoned housekeeper who seems too good to be true.

A young, recently orphaned boy, Jack shows up at their doorstep, which is just the beginning of a new adventure. A quest to find Jack’s lost sister, where they experience an unbelievable, eye opening, first hand look into the heartbreaking despair of orphanages. The story continues with several highs and lows along the way. And most difficult of all, waiting for Christmas. Will Jack’s father return as he has promised?

Story
At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history.

Great book. Excellent performance. The author not only transports the reader back to a different time and place recounting her experiences as a midwife, she gives the reader a glimpse of her own heart and the transformation that only the truth can make in a heart.

Story
Robert Whitlow’s gripping legal thrillers have won him a Christy Award and favorable comparisons to John Grisham. Higher Hope, the second novel in his Tides of Truth series, follows Savannah law clerk Tami Taylor as she assists on a case against a preacher who has been defaming a businessman with so-called prophecies from God. Though her firm wants to prove these prophecies are nothing more than slander, Tami can’t help but wonder if the preacher is, in fact, telling the truth.

A favorite series among Whitlow’s works
Reviewed: 07-15-20
I have listened to many of Mr Whitlow’s novels, and am thoroughly enjoying this series - above any others of his works. He has captured, with remarkable insight, accuracy, and tenderness the particular (and sometimes peculiar) qualities of this Northern Georgia law student, and her devout, family and church-centric upbringing.
Only a couple of mispronounced words have taken the perfection away from my experience with these novels.
This one, #3 in the series, edges toward suspense more than the first two did.
5 stars.

In 2012, on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan, an improvised explosive device left Dan Crenshaw's right eye destroyed and his left blinded. Only through the careful hand of his surgeons, and what doctors called a miracle, did Crenshaw's left eye recover partial vision. And yet, he persevered, completing two more deployments. Why? There are certain stories we tell ourselves about the hardships we face—we can become paralyzed by adversity or we can adapt and overcome. We can be fragile or we can find our fortitude. Crenshaw delivers a set of lessons to help you do just that.
