Must read for people who are trusting
Reviewed: 04-03-23
It is a book that looks at several cases of deception. The author lists the cases and discuss them and show the points of deception.
I like it because it opened my eyes to my weak points where people might grab my attention and use my beliefs to gain.

Story
As a third daughter on the farming colony of Meterion, Susan’s future prospects aren’t too promising. A pretty face, top-notch skills, and hard work mean nothing if your dowry doesn’t include fertile lands. With her 25th birthday approaching, and no suitors, her only way out is to settle for an arranged marriage through the PMA - the Prime Mating Agency. She just never expected to be paired with a grumpy, massive lizardman, and above all not to grow so fond of his scales and quirky ways.

But wow! It was lovely. The author must have a background in anthropology and biology. This is not smut at all, it is romance with some adult happenings in it. Good job.

Story
Spellbinder is the story of a genuine and charismatic believer simply known as "Preacher", who returns from the foxholes and horrors of Vietnam with a simple goal: to spread the word of peace, love, and charity. He immediately attracts a following as he moves from California communes to small surfing towns. "The Church", as his mobile flock is now known, is a culture that centers as much on sex and drugs as prayers, sacraments, and salvation.

A Masterpiece

Wow, A masterpiece. Became a Robbins’ fan about 3 years ago and I am slowly going through his work.
Robbins can be criticized for time hopping too much but in this one he kept it linear. Very clear and coherent.
Loved the protagonist, very strong character. I also think this book was ahead of its time and is still relevant today but probably was most retable in the 1990s and early to mid 2000s.
As a fan I assumed his best writing was in the 60s but after reading this two of my faves are in the 80s. The other is Goodbye Jeanette.
If you are a Robbin’s fan it is worth the read. This one has a couple quotable moments lines, too.

Story
The Age of Surveillance Capitalism is neither a hand-wringing narrative of danger and decline nor a digital fairy tale. Rather, it offers a deeply reasoned and evocative examination of the contests over the next chapter of capitalism that will decide the meaning of information civilization in the 21st century. The stark issue at hand is whether we will be the masters of information and machines or its slaves.

Much needed book

This is necessary reading for anyone that owns a g mail account or has used any technology from FBook and Google.
At times the book seems longwinded but she ties it all up nicely and it is worth the listen.
