Story
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Zayden is so annoying! shut up with "just ask me" like my boy we all don't know what it is we need to ask. That triggered me throughout this whole book. But overall a good read

Suburbia. Shady, tree-lined streets; well-tended lawns; and cozy homes. A nice, quiet place to grow up. Unless you are teenage Meg or her crippled sister, Susan. On a dead-end street, in the dark, damp basement of the Chandler house, Meg and Susan are left captive to the savage whims and rages of a distant aunt who is rapidly descending into madness. It is a madness that infects all three of her sons and finally the entire neighborhood. Only one troubled boy stands hesitantly between Meg and Susan and their cruel, torturous deaths.

It started out slow but as soon as the chaos started happening it just kept getting worse and worse and I couldnt stop listening.
It was a good story overall. Would definitely recommend it. The only thing I wish would happen was I wish Ruth was able to suffer than just have a quick death. Like I'm glad her character died and she got to see who was her killer but I just wish she suffered.

This booked was very interesting and had me hooked; wondering how all the characters connect. As I kept listening I started to realize that this is Promising Young Woman vibes. Which isn't bad, I love the movie and the plot but since I already heard these plot and twist, the thrill of the story dwindled.

Slow building

It's a very slow book at first where, of course, they have to introduce all the key players. I was getting so impatient because I wanted to know what was going to happen after each chapter.
It also had me wondering if some of our wars got started similar to this war. Which is pretty scary to think about everything that could have been avoided

This book was entertaining enough to finish it. It's out of my normal genre, but for a beginner into these types of books, it's not too bad? The only issue i have is that he hates her because he isn't able to take responsibility for murdering his own father like...really? I feel like there should have been a better reason, but besides that, this book was ok.

I can understand why some people dislike it. It's hard not to hate on the daughter and sympathize more on the mother, but I enjoyed it. I can understand why the MC thought the way she did, considering she didn't know the "norms" to how things should actually be and even though I may have understood why she thought that way, it was still frustrating. One thing that I didn't understand was why she killed the guy?
