1st fell in love with time travel romance with A Knight in Shining armor when I was 19 or so. This book was not JD at her best. It was disjointed, characters were not compelling, not enough development. The story line was janky. I kept waiting for it all to come together, but it never really did. It just didn’t resonate like so very many of her other books do. Oh, and the reader…eek. Made every make character sound like a geezer on his death bed regardless of age.

Minimal historical context. Minimal character development. Predictable story lines. Very rare for me to do, but just couldn’t finish the last one with about 10 minutes to go because the dialogue along with the narration was just too much and not enough all at once. It was like the dollar menu of historic or time travel romance. Fun concept, more development would have made a big difference.
