Story
For years, Christena Cleveland spoke about racial reconciliation to congregations, justice organizations, and colleges. But she increasingly felt she could no longer trust in the God she’d been implicitly taught to worship—a white male God who preferentially empowered white men despite his claim to love all people. A God who clearly did not relate to, advocate for, or affirm a Black woman like Christena.

There’s no such thing as magic in the broken city of Lkossa, especially for sixteen-year-old Koffi, who indentured to the notorious Night Zoo, knows the fearsome creatures in her care and paying off her family's debts to secure their eventual freedom can be her only focus. But the night those she loves are gravely threatened by the Zoo’s cruel master, Koffi unleashes a power she doesn’t fully understand, upending her life completely.

Good story
Reviewed: 08-26-22
Good story and excited that there might be another book. However, I had difficult time listening to this book because of the two female narrators especially the one that voiced Adiah. Her voice and narration caused me to quit the book after chapter 1 but I came back because other reviews stated it was a good read. The guy was ok but disappointed overall in the narration because I was expecting African accents. If there’s another book coming my hope is they change narrators.

As Calamity takes the child into her care, she discovers that all is not as it seems. Then, Calamity must reawaken to the mysteries surrounding her own childhood and the early disappearance of her mother.

I really enjoyed this book. The story and narration pulled me from the start. Great performance by the narrator she was spot on for all the characters . I did not think it was slow at all. I wish it was longer. I have a new favorite author.

Bad story and poor performance
Reviewed: 05-20-22
Not a great story and poor performance. I lost count of the nays and mayhap throughout, his voice was annoying, he didn’t have a accent and he was not tough/sexy like you imagine the male characters. The main characters are my least favorite couple actually I don’t like them at all. Overall this book was terrible and not worth using a credit. P. S. I hope she get a different narrator for future books.

Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Story
Anita has never seen Damian, her vampire servant, in such a state. The rising sun doesn't usher in the peaceful death that he desperately needs. Instead, he's being bombarded with violent nightmares and blood sweats. And now, with Damian at his most vulnerable, Anita needs him the most. The vampire who created him, who subjected him to centuries of torture, might be losing control, allowing rogue vampires to run wild and break one of their kind's few strict taboos.
