Their covert mission has been a success. The enemy has been vanquished. Or so they thought. To defeat him, Wraith Squadron must join a combat task force led by the only man crafty enough to beat Zsinj at his own game: Han Solo.

A Blend of everything you’d want from this series
Reviewed: 11-17-24
A superb conclusion (kind of) to this main part of the X-Wing series. From Ketch to Jansen, the humor is stellar. From the Fel narrative to Notsil and Tonin’s arc, it is overflowing with rich story and thrilling moments.

Story
Against all odds, the controversial Wraith Squadron has survived its first covert mission. But now they are called upon to cheat death twice. This time, Wedge Antilles sends them in to stop the warlord Zsinj and his Super Star Destroyer, Iron Fist. If Zsinj joins the Empire, it could turn the tide of war against the Rebels. The Wraith Squadron’s mission: infiltrate the warlord’s fleet and uncover his carefully guarded plans. To do so, they must pose as ruthless pirates seeking to join Zsinj’s forces. And that means first becoming pirates in space lanes teeming with Imperial navy patrols.

The second Dune installment explores new developments on the planet Arrakis, with its intricate social order and strange, threatening environment. Dune Messiah picks up the story of the man known as Muad'Dib, heir to a power unimaginable, bringing to fruition an ambition of unparalleled scale: the centuries-old scheme to create a superbeing who reigns not in the heavens but among men. A huge drop off from the first book
Reviewed: 04-17-24
The narrators were good but Inconsistent- different people voiced characters at different times which is confusing.
There is very little action in this book- it’s 90% dialogue and moves very slowly. It also seemed obvious what was going to happen because of Paul’s prescience so there was no real serious and fun climax in my opinion.
Stopping my Dune Saga journey here. Would have been happy ending with the first book which was great.

Important work well-told

Very comprehensive account and analysis from the angles and perspectives of the underside of history. You have to love historical details to stay tuned as it can be a tad dry in places, but it’s thematic arcs and socio-economic critique are poignant and much needed

Many of us find ourselves caught somewhere between unbelieving activists and inactive believers. We can write a check to feed starving children or hold signs in the streets and feel like we've made a difference without ever encountering the faces of the suffering masses. In this book, Shane Claiborne describes an authentic faith rooted in belief, action, and love, inviting us into a movement of the Spirit that begins inside each of us and extends into a broken world.

Take the Pill

This book will revolutionize, pun intended, your discipleship journey. Nothing about life in our capitalist, globalized, militaristic, politically polarizing world will ever be easy for you to swallow again. Take the pill, and take the plunge into life in the kingdom of God.

Story
Animal scientists have long considered domestic livestock to be too dumb to know how to eat right, but the lifetime research of animal behaviorist Fred Provenza and his colleagues has debunked this myth. Their work shows that when given a choice of natural foods, livestock have an astoundingly refined palate, nibbling through the day on as many as fifty kinds of grasses, forbs, and shrubs to meet their nutritional needs with remarkable precision.

Great but surprising shift in focus
Reviewed: 12-06-22
Great insights and perspective with revelatory findings on wisdom alive in all living things. The science and experiences he shares are excellent, and some of his theological and metaphysical musings are inspiring and well crafted… but those latter things ended up taking over the whole last few hours of the book- there was no real tie-in back to the main topic and threads of the book in its earlier focus.
Every chapter end is cut short for some reason.
