Story
Join Professor Fears for this riveting 24-lecture examination of fascinating figures who shaped the story of Greece from the Trojan War through the rise of Rome. What do their lives, studied in the context of their times, tell us about virtue and vice, folly and wisdom, success and failure? Inspired and informed by the monumental works of Homer, Herodotus, Thucydides, and Plutarch, these lectures allow you to do exactly that, guided by a truly great teacher.

Terrible performance!

I wish the narrator would just talk normal instead of sing~songing all the time, not keeping a constant speed, not only is it terrible to listen to, I can hardly understand what he is trying to narrate! It was a torture to listen to him . I could not finish listening!

Terrible narration
Reviewed: 03-17-24
The reader read without ANY feeling, the diction was clear, but there is no narration, just plain reading! It was impossible to follow! Of course I stopped listening after unsuccessful tries to grasp what was being „read“! A disappointment!

This is really a great book. I have been listening to this three times and still learn new stuff. There is so much packed into this book I always hear new ideas. His examples, comparisons, and background information is incredible! I have also learned a lot about history and culture….
I have already recommended this book to 3 friends. This book is really educational! I have never felt more ignorant than now when I listen to professor Greenberg. Thank you for presenting this book.

More entertaining than informative

After listening to Weil narrate in Russian, one feels like wanting to learn Russian. There Weil was very successful, in promoting the Russian language. Otherwise one has the idea of getting a synopsis of the different novels. What I find is really not necessary is to SING first Shakespeare and then SING the translation in Russian. On the whole one has some idea about the different writers, and about Russian history, but I would have appreciated if he would have gone a little bit deeper into the whole subject.

The overall explanation was interesting, from the 50% of what I understood. If only the professor would speak NORMALLY, instead of acting out exaggeratedly in a theatrical manner, it would have been possible to understand what she wants to say. It’s a pity because when she talks normally, it’s a pleasure to follow her lectures.

What if you could travel anywhere, whether Europe, South America, or the remote reaches of the African continent? And what if you could choose not only your destination, but your era, as well-so that you might choose from the sparkling court society of 18th-century France, a 19th-century whaling ship out of New Bedford, or the streets of Dublin in the early part of the 20th century?

The reader spoke very fast and not clear, it was very difficult to follow. It would have been helpful if at least he spoke clearly. A pity

Story
Soseki Natsume's comic masterpiece, I Am a Cat, satirizes the foolishness of upper-middle class Japanese society during the Meiji era. With acerbic wit and sardonic perspective, it follows the whimsical adventures of a world-weary stray kitten who comments on the follies and foibles of the people around him. A classic of Japanese literature, I Am a Cat is one of Soseki's best-known novels. Considered by many as the greatest writer in modern Japanese history, Soseki's I Am a Cat is a classic novel sure to be enjoyed for years to come.
