I enjoyed the series and will continue. I recommend reading Ethan’s series along with Sky.
The narration unfortunately didn’t do the story justice. The emotions were lacking and/or wrongly portrayed.

Story
Souls are interesting things. Not something you can prove you possess. Not something that can be measured, like a heartbeat. But something that can be destroyed by the absence of a heartbeat. No, you cannot prove you possess a soul. But once that soul dies, there doesn't need to be proof that you don't have one. Once that blackened pit opens inside you, the world can see it. The world cowers from it.

Rinse and Repeat with different couples
Reviewed: 10-17-24
I enjoyed the first few books of the series; but as it continues it’s like listening to the same old story with different couples. This will be my last book of the series I read.
Emma Wilder as narrator is great and easy to listen.

Story
Mercenary Casia Greythorne cares about two things: completing whatever her latest job is and earning enough coin to buy the expensive medicine that's keeping her mentor alive. So when the king himself offers her a job, she can't resist the massive reward he offers - even if it means working with Captain Elander, the arrogant, mysterious right-hand to that king. Her partner may be infuriating, but at least their mission seems simple and quick enough: investigate the origins of the strange plague that's been ravaging their empire, help find a cure, and then call it a day.

The ebook and audiobook differ
Reviewed: 10-11-24
My favorite form of reading is listening to the audio while reading the ebook. Unfortunately, the ebook and audiobook is extremely different and made me lose focus often.
The story itself is intriguing and I will continue on with the series, but hopefully the audio matches the books in the rest of series.

Choices will be made, lives will be lost, and friendships tested. Not all family is blood; not every family is the norm. What would you do to hold onto yours?

Series needs a major overhaul for it’s genre
Reviewed: 10-01-24
Okay so this is listed as a RH; however, it is more like the rated G version of the genre. I would let my 13 year old read it, it was so bland.
The narrators were good, except the female narrator needs to learn how to pronounce city names correctly. Narrators should learn how to speak the true pronunciation of words before narrating a book.

But her latest manuscript is different - more serious, more personal - and she's sure it'll be her breakout book…if it ever sees the light of day. Zachary Easton holds Nora's fate in his well-manicured hands. The demanding British editor agrees to handle the book on one condition: He wants complete control. Nora must rewrite the entire novel to his exacting standards - in six weeks - or it's no deal. Nora's grueling writing sessions with Zach are draining…and shockingly arousing.

It’s always been about the chase. The prize. The puzzle. The Game. I became the best of the best, Hermes, because no one could catch me. No one could touch me. No one had. Until her. She’s everything I never knew I wanted. She is my life. It’s been one bad call after another in this Game. It’s cost the woman I love more than I ever wanted her to have to pay. I would give it all up for her, but the Game must be played. I started this game for my grandfather. I fought to win to claim the Valenshek Legacy. Win, lose, or draw, I’m not leaving this town without Tristian Ives.
