As required by U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations and Audible requirements, I am disclosing that I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request. I have listened to the audiobook, and I have voluntarily left an honest review. Receiving a review copy did not influence my rating nor my review.

Right off the bat, I loved Faye's accent as she narrated this book. She and Tom both are excellent voice actors. There is never a question of which character is speaking out loud. The story itself was extremely enjoyable as well. The world that the authors constructed is unique. While they do merge early technology with magic, it has its own take so that they don't quite work in the manner expected at first. The same holds true for the magical rules of this world. There will be surprises in store that will make you question what you have believed. In the end, you will be thinking, "Oh, that's a new way to look at that concept." I cannot wait for the next part to come out.

This was an amazing book to listen to. Jessica Threet and Evan Jordan do an excellent job. The story itself focuses on the story rather than stats, as stated in the Author's note. All of the characters have depth. No cardboard cutouts here. Each harem member has their own reason for joining which has almost nothing to do with the main character being good in bed. I was laughing out loud several times during the story. I greatly enjoyed how the reader learns about how the world works rather than having to fumble through assumptions the authors make. What makes it even more attractive is that the learning takes place as part of the story rather than having notes at the end of the chapters. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

I haven't kept up with this series so I felt a little lost throughout the book as references were made that I assumed I would understand better had I read the previous books. That being said, it was not a major distractor to the story in general. There were several times when I wanted to strangle various characters for their lack of communication, which is true in most stories. The writing was excellent and put me in the mind set of the time period the story is set in. The author has an excellent sense of misdirection which was used well to the very end.

My only two issues is the music at the end of each chapter and not drawing me into the story. I felt that the music detracted from the story rather than added to it. That's just personal preference. When I feel that a character is acting extremely stupid, I usually write them off, thus writing off their story as well. Of course, what I feel is acting stupid may be perfectly normal for others. We each have our own preferences.

Overall, this is a well written/performed book and I would recommend it.

This story is a great one to read. It's also very enjoyable to listen to. Each character has their own personality that comes through beautifully with the writing. The narrator has an excellent grasp of each character's voice and breathes life into them. Her voice is pleasing to listen to. I'll definitely be waiting for the sequels.

I kept waiting for the questions that the first book raised to be answered. Some were and some were not. I'm used to minor questions never being answered. My problem with this book is that major questions were not answered either. The whole series left me frustrated.
