Story
One of our most renowned and brilliant historians takes a fresh look at the revolutionary intellectual movement that laid the foundation for the modern world. Liberty and equality. Human rights. Freedom of thought and expression. Belief in reason and progress. The value of scientific inquiry. These are just some of the ideas that were conceived and developed during the Enlightenment, and which changed forever the intellectual landscape of the Western world.

Where does The Enlightenment rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Its is one of the more informative books I have listened to. Since I got into politics, I wanted to read a book that was about where mine all began. The enlightenment was a very interesting period with many important figures to learn about.
What did you like best about this story?
Its not a story so much as it is a bunch of sections telling you about the zeitgeist, figures and ideas that rose during the time period.
Which scene was your favorite?
I am a huge fan of Thomas Jefferson and Voltaire so those sections were my favorite.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
NOOOO waaaaaaaaay too long and had too much information for one sitting.

Story
In the second decade of the 21st century, the world is struck by two catastrophes: a new mini-ice age and a plague to dwarf all previous experiences. Rising out of the disaster is the character known to history as "Bandit Six", an American Army officer caught up in the struggle to rebuild the world and prevent the fall of his homeland - despite the best efforts of politicians, both elected and military.

Mixing reality with fantasy
Reviewed: 05-18-15
What would have made The Last Centurion better?
If it wasn't so arrogant about science that wasn't so shamelessly made up. The book has some reality in it but then mixes it with political talking points that are demonstrably false.
I know it is science fiction but it is obviously meant to pander to hard core right wingers.
It is a world where the author takes real statistics and science from the real world and creates his own made up stats in this sci-fi world so that the reader cant tell the difference between fantasy and reality.
Also super cheesy at points.
What do you think your next listen will be?
No idea, made me wanna take time off from reading this was so bad.
What does Dan John Miller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The Narrator does an excellent job of impersonating the protagonist. Can imitate a jarhead very well.
What character would you cut from The Last Centurion?
The protagonist. Arrogant and ignorant
Any additional comments?
This book is okay for comedy but the politics that it mixes in are almost cognitively painful to anyone who has even a soft spoken political opinion, let alone a strong one.
