A fun Christian rom-com

This is a cute Christian rom-com. It’s funny and sweet. I like how both MCs have physical conditions (Evangeline’s alopecia and Ty’s asthma) that set them apart from the standard MC picture of perfection. Much of the book is Evangeline overcoming her struggle with self worth and past rejection. It gets a little frustrating at times, but not unrealistic.

The ending is perhaps a bit cheesy but not over the top… And I won’t get into how improbable Ty’s perfect character is ☺️

Content:
There is no foul language, sex, or violence. The romance is limited to mildly descriptive kisses. This is a Christian book, with mentions of faith, prayer, God, and His love.

A super sweet regency romance

A very enjoyable book. It’s a super sweet regency romance, and though a little slow at times, it firmly held my attention. The FMC, Felicity, has a great deal of empathy but suffers from social anxiety and a complete lack of confidence. She is quick to sacrifice her own needs and desires for others, and much of the story is about her growth in overcoming her insecurities. Her and James are strangers forced into marriage to protect their reputations. James is perhaps a little TOO perfect, as only a fictional MMC can be, but he’s so sweet and charming that it’s impossible not too love him… And really, this is a romance novel written for a female audience, so who’s really going to complain 😊

For those who enjoy listening, the audiobook narrator is excellent.

Content:
There is no foul language, sex, or violence. The romance is limited to lightly descriptive kisses. There is no real mention of faith or God.

This is a lovely regency romance with great depth and heart. Verity cares for her younger autistic sister and is desperate to provide a safe and stable home for her after the death of their father and loss of his entailed estate. The estate is going to a distant cousin who struggles with shame and self-worth, and seeks to lose himself in drink, gambling, and women. Though I am usually NOT a fan of a scoundrel MMC, Daniel has a beautiful redemption story and I couldn’t help but root for him.

Though a more somber book than I typically go for, this one is very well written and I found it captivating.

Content:
There is no foul language, sex, or violence. The romance is limited to lightly descriptive kisses, though the FMC does sneak into the MMC’s bedchamber in an attempt to convince him to marry her (nothing sexual occurs). There is quite a bit of drinking by the MMC and others. There is no real mention of faith or God.

Trigger warnings:
A cold, neglectful, and evil mother. Death of a parent.

1st person, dual POV

This is such a charming story, with great characters and great relationship development. Cora is kind, genuine, and a wonderful heroine. I love that, despite being a flirt, Oliver is not the rake and scoundrel so common in regency romances. He’s charming and honorable, despite struggling with rejection, betrayal, and shame. Their story is endearing and thoroughly engaging.

I’ve read and enjoyed several Joanna Barker books, but this one has to be my favorite. Highly recommended!

Content:
There is no foul language or sex, and the violence is minimal (one punch thrown). The romance is limited to a couple mildly descriptive kisses. There is no mention of faith or God.

This is such an enjoyable read. The characters are wonderful, the story fun and humorous, and the romance sweet. It’s a novella and fairly short, but it didn’t feel rushed or shallow because of it. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author, and the narrator is excellent.

So good!

This is one of my favorite series ever! I’ve now read it 4 times, this latest time listening to the newly released audiobook (most excellent!). It somehow just keeps getting better and better. It’s so clever and so funny and so completely unique. Just exceptional!

Original review:

By all appearances, this is NOT my type of book. It’s urban fantasy, set forth in the modern world with modern technology and modern life. It contains vampires, werewolves, and wizards. It has no questing, no dragons, and no audiobook. Honestly, I don’t know why I picked it up in the first place.

And yet… it is SO GOOD! It’s absolutely hilarious and quite addictive. It had me staying up past 1am multiple nights in a row, something I’m usually way too responsible for ☺️

The main character has the ability to transform into a house-cat, and finds herself unwillingly adopted as the pet of an evil Elf King of Death… who turns out to be a doting and obsessive pet owner. It’s written in the first person and her running commentary is beyond humorous.

If you’re considering it, I’d recommend reading through the book description. It’s very representative of the writing style and feel of the book and gives a good taste of what you’re in for.

Series content:
There’s no foul language or sex. There’s some kissing but it’s clean. There’s magic, and some minor violence. There are no references to faith or God.

“This feels like the punchline of a really bad joke, I thought as the trio petted me. Or rather, Ker and Aristide petted me as Noctus watched. A werewolf, an elf king, and a vampire find a cat—HEY!”

“Noctus—a deadly and dangerous elf king—was hand feeding his pet cat freshly cooked chicken. Bro, you should have gotten a pet ages ago if you were going to be this dedicated. I’d feel bad for you, if you weren’t a figurative nightmare from supernaturals’ past.”

“Everyone else will call you Ama,” he said. “But to me, you are Amalourne.”

What a great conclusion to a most excellent series! I think this was my favorite of all of them, which is saying a lot. On its own, the story was highly engaging, with a great pace and plenty of action and suspense. I loved the characters, and the romance between Zinnia and Obsidian was natural and convincing. Beyond the individual storyline, this book wrapped up the overarching series plot in a most satisfying way. I am so impressed with Deborah Grace White and how she was able to weave each fairy tale into a carefully crafted world. So well done!

I cannot recommend this series enough. While the books can be enjoyed individually, I suggest reading them in order so you can appreciate the series’ larger storyline.

Content:
There’s no foul language or sex, and the violence is minimal. The romance is clean with only a few chaste kisses. There is a lot of magic. There is no mention of faith or God.

I just loved this book. It’s a highly engaging historical romance full of political intrigue, forgotten identities, and the bond of family.

A duke and his lost duchess are given a second chance in marriage when she is discovered alive and well 8 years after the tragic accident that was thought to have taken her life. She has lost her memory and started a new life, having been taken in by a kind doctor and become a mother to his 3 children and her own son, whom she was found pregnant with. Though the doctor has since died, they remain a tight and loving family of performing musicians. It’s during one of their performances that she is seen and recognized by her husband.

This is a beautiful story of new and rekindled love as their lives once again cross and blend together. This book is sweet and heartwarming, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Content:
There’s no foul language, violence, or sex. There are many mentions of mistresses and infidelity, but the romance itself is limited to a few lightly descriptive kisses. There is no real mention of God or faith.

This is a great book. It’s a redemption story woven into a regency romance. Though quite somber at times, it also has some light and funny scenes that put a huge grin on my face.

A wicked man at death’s door comes to realize he has done nothing of merit in his entire 27 years of life. Even his family can find nothing redeeming in him, and he finally starts to feel a shred of remorse. There is one especially wicked deed that haunts him, how he stole the fortune of a good man, ruined his reputation, and left him and his family completely destitute. In a final desperate attempt to ease his conscience, he offers to marry the daughter of the man, promising to die shortly after and leave her a titled and wealthy widow.

The characters and romance are well done, and the story is engaging throughout. I felt the final relationship tension at the end was a bit unnecessary, but it didn’t last excessively long.

I highly recommend this series!

Content:
There’s no foul language, violence, or sex. The romance is limited to lightly descriptive kissing. Despite some references to church earlier in the book, there isn’t really a message of faith or God.

Trigger warning - A significant portion of this story deals with terminal sickness and death. There is a physically and emotionally abusive father, seen in flashbacks.

This is by far the best Wild Swans retelling I’ve read. The story is so well done. It’s engaging with great characters, but I especially love the relationships. The relationship between Wren and her brothers is particularly heartwarming, made all the more so by what she is forced to endure. And the romance between Wren and Basil is natural and sweet. They make excellent MCs, both being honorable, strong, and compassionate characters.

Beyond the relationships, there’s plenty of tension, intrigue, and danger to keep the story moving. Highly recommended to those who enjoy fairy tales!
