Love the Sean Duffy books but this one...had to return it. Bad reader and bad writing. Could not finish it. Didn't care for any of the characters or what happened to them. Repetitive and predictable. And this is the one to make him some money!?!? Go figure....

Story
Sonny Lofthus is a strangely charismatic and complacent young man. Sonny’s been in prison for a dozen years, nearly half his life. The inmates who seek out his uncanny abilities to soothe leave his cell feeling absolved. They don’t know or care that Sonny has a serious heroin habit - or where or how he gets his uninterrupted supply of the drug. Or that he’s serving time for other peoples’ crimes. Sonny took the first steps toward addiction when his father took his own life rather than face exposure as a corrupt cop. Now Sonny is the seemingly malleable center of a whole infrastructure of corruption....

Pretty good story, a bit predictable and hannibal lecterble, haha, in a way that you root for a killer. Reader was decent but I didn't like the way he portrayed Martha and the son at times, a little too breathless and holier than thau.

Loved the earlier books but not this one
Reviewed: 11-02-18
The narrator was TERRIBLE! He made the main character totally unlikable, annoying drama queen and an unbearable whiner that I could not have cared less about! Unless that was the whole point in which case I missed it completely. Forced myself to finish listening. I think the writing wasn't as good as before either, went on and on and on without actually moving ahead. The book could have been half shorter.

Reader ruins the book
Reviewed: 10-24-18
Loved this series and was excited to listen to this latest one but the reader totally ruined the book for me. Just horrible! Specially when reading female roles. Carol Jordan became this really weird, whiny character, that you just didn't like nor cared for.

Any additional comments?
I return very few books but this is one of them. Good title and premise but that's it. Writing is repetitious and infomercial like: wait, there is more! I never felt a connection with any of the characters and didn't care what happened to them. Reader did the best he could with the story he was given. In a way it also assumes the reader is a bit dull - too much explanation.

After the events in Gathering Prey, Lucas Davenport finds himself in a very unusual situation - no longer employed by the Minnesota BCA. His friend, the governor, is just cranking up a presidential campaign, though, and he invites Lucas to come along as part of his campaign staff. "Should be fun!" he says, and it kind of is - until they find they have a shadow: an armed man intent on killing the governor...and anyone who gets in the way.

What disappointed you about Extreme Prey?
Boring, predictable story line, not your usual Prey roller coaster ride. So disappointing since I've just LOVED each and every previous one.
Would you ever listen to anything by John Sandford again?
Yes, of course! Can't wait for the next one! One bad apple doesn't ruin the whole basket!
What about Richard Ferrone’s performance did you like?
LOVE Richard Ferrone! I think he does his best work with Sandford books.
