Story
It’s the mid-'90s. Grunge and flannel are fading as the Spice Girls and Hot Topic conquer the malls. Cherry gloss glistens on the lips of the youth. Modems hiss as America comes online. And in a fog-drenched cove at the edge of New England, something terrible awakens when a fisherman reels in a gruesome catch: the remains of a young woman. Remains still pulsing with furious life.

I don’t mind ambiguous endings where you have to sort through what you think happened, but there were a lot of questions. I also didn’t like the ending bc I prefer more of a sense of justice for the bad guy. It made a lot of the story seem superfluous with that outcome. I’m being vague so I don’t spoil it.
Honestly, it was like flushing a bunch of different things down the toilet, it looks interesting to see them all swirling, swirling together, but at the end it was a mixed mess. Narration was great and the author was very aware of parallels to other stories. I laughed out loud at one point when he called himself out with an “I know what you did last summer” reference bc I had been thinking it had that vibe for a bit.

Livvy Savoie is a people person. Not only does she have the magical gift of persuasion, but her natural charisma charms everyone she meets. She hasn’t met a person she didn’t like. Until her annoyingly brilliant competitor walks through the door. No matter how hard she denies it, loathing isn’t the only emotion she feels for him. Grim reaper Gareth Blackwater is rarely, if ever, moved beyond his broody, stoic state. But the witch he’s partnered with in the public relations contest is destroying his peace of mind.

I was pretty excited for Livvy and Gareth and Always Practice Safe Hex did not disappoint! Their burgeoning relationship came together perfectly and Gareth’s magic was so interesting. The undercurrent of threat to Livvy was well done too, but def gave me the creeps when it culminated. Great story by Juliette Cross and as always, amazing performance by the narrators Aiden Snow and Johanna Fairchild.

Story
I suck at witchcraft. Coming from a long line of famous witches, I should be at the top of the heap. Problem is, if there's a spell cast anywhere near me, I'll somehow mess it up. As a probationary agent with the Arcane Bureau of Investigation, I have two choices: I can limp along and maybe pass myself off as a competent agent, or I can die. Horribly. Worse news? I seem to have a stalker in the form of a sinfully hot, perpetually grumpy wolf who seems to have a keen interest in keeping me alive. Whose idea was this again?

Great narration and great story! I loved Wren and Nico! Wren was such a fun character and Nico trying to resist her was hilarious. Their banter and chemistry were off the charts. Super excited for the sequel! Fantastic narrators too!

At first, Logan Ramsay isn’t sure if anything’s different. He just feels a little . . . sharper. Better able to concentrate. Better at multitasking. Reading a bit faster, memorizing better, needing less sleep. But before long, he can’t deny it: Something’s happening to his brain. To his body. He’s starting to see the world, and those around him—even those he loves most—in whole new ways. The truth is, Logan’s genome has been hacked. And there’s a reason he’s been targeted for this upgrade.

A bit heavy on the technical details at times, but I’m interested in genetic engineering (I have little to no knowledge but I’ve read a bit). I think if you’re not intrigued by the concept, the technical details will be more annoying. The story was good and fast paced. Definitely better then Recursion, but not as good as Dark Matter.

Nico and Violet start off with a bang and then kept up the tension for a while. It was good though! I liked their back and forth and that they had the hots for each other, but also had a solid friendship.
One thing I really appreciate about this series is that there are individual stories and a connecting theme with the werewolves and other supes that progresses too.
Phenomenal narrators in Aiden Snow and Johanna Fairview. I’m having book hangover after finishing this series. And I’m pretty desperate to read the 4th book that just came out but I’m Hoooooked on the audiobooks! So I’ll be waiting for that
This was the steamiest book so far! Just FYI, be careful listening loudly in your car lol.

Devraj and Isadora were cute. The story with the missing girls was good and the two mains definitely had chemistry. Their “meet cute” was funny. And their falling for each other progressed pretty naturally. Isadora walking next door to accept an offer Devraj made was one of my favorites.
The narrators are excellent and I honestly love them so much! Aiden Snow did an excellent job as Devraj and his accent was on point. I’m amazed by Aiden Snow and Johanna Fairview and their ability to be distinct in their voices and characters as the books move along.
I could’ve done without Devraj being a Bollywood star. It didn’t add much to the story and he could’ve been hot without that detail.

Story
Unable to shift for three months, Mateo Cruz knows all too well. His wolf has taken up residence in his head, taunting him night and day with vividly violent and carnal thoughts. Convinced he's cursed, he needs the help of a powerful witch before he literally goes insane. Evie Savoie has always obeyed the house rule of her coven: no werewolves. They're known for being volatile. So, when a distempered, dangerous werewolf strolls into the bar and almost strangles one of her late-night customers, she's ready to bounce him through the door. But she sees the desperation in his eyes....

Mateo and Evie are such a good story. Paranormal romance with some steam. The two voice actors are AMAZING! I loved Aiden. His voice is perfect for a hot, alpha male. And Johanna was a great match for Evie. She was bouncy and cheery and sounded different in the second book, when voicing a different sister.
The story was great too though. I liked Mateo immediately and his inner conversations with his wolf were hilarious. I liked the progression of their relationship and the forced proximity (but it wasn’t unwelcome from Evie). My one qualm was I would’ve liked more steam for Mateo/Evie specifically bc there’s more steam (and sooner) in the sequels, but that’s a tiny qualm. I really loved the book and bought the other three audiobooks in the series before I even finished it.

I found the main character to be pretty pathetic. She really grated on me and I was dissatisfied by how things in town were resolved. There wasn’t a lot of story aside from the MC being obsessed with her ex and her new friend who comes with quirks. That’s pretty much it. I was bored and really slogged through this bc it was a buddy read.

I really loved the first two books in this series, but War and Peach really annoyed me. I guessed who the killer was fairly early on, so everyone’s “surprise” at the reveal seemed dumb. Also the stuff the sheriff in this series pulls would be completely illegal. I can suspend belief for some stuff here and there, but this was completely out of hand. Nola May’s responses to someone about to slander her family’s name in the local paper were way too timid and unbelievable. I was also pretty over the childish jealousy of her supposedly perfect boyfriend.
There was a lot going on with the mystery and parts of it were interesting. I still love the small southern town setting and all the recipes they discuss. I won’t buy another book in this series though.
