Good but...

Overall
3 out of 5 stars

The title of this work is a bit misleading. It's a little short on both the author's life and the serial killer aspect. While there are some interesting observations, I got tired of the author reassuring readers that she won't share her experiences with her kids. <yawn>

Another Godin Classic

Overall
4 out of 5 stars

Godin doesn't necessarily write books. He seems to write chapters of a larger work. Picking up on Purple Cow (to which he makes several references), this is another great Godin look at the current state of marketing. Not a lot of insight on how you can be a better marketer but a good "how am I being manipulated?" piece.

The World Is Flat Audiobook By Thomas L. Friedman cover art

Far too long/redundant

19 Hours? You've got to be kidding me. Once I got to hour 9 I had heard the same five examples a dozen times. I was hearing nothing new. Do not get this unabridged edition. Perhaps the abridged work can hold one's interest but it feels like the author was getting paid by the word. Good concept made deathly dull.

Amazing!

I was shocked -- I usually find Sarah Vowell's voice as soothing as nails on a chalkboard but, not only did I survive listening to hours of her, but I enjoyed the experience. This book has stayed with me for months now and may be the first audible.com DL that I listen to for a second time. Interesting and fun.

Purple but Good

Overall
4 out of 5 stars

If you listen to this, don't bother to see the movie and vice versa. This has to be the best adapted work of the year -- that said, you're travelling familiar waters if you experience both works. The short story is great -- Campbell Scott does an EXCELLENT job as narrator. The prose gets a bit purple at times but it's probably "expected" as this is a classic romance.

Ironic

Overall
3 out of 5 stars

It's ironic that this was a book to read for my workplace book club. When hearing about these dysfunctional team members, I kept being reminded of the horrible management team which had directed me to read this book. Whaaa? Alas, they seemed to use this work as an excuse to go to Miami for an "offsite", emulating the team in this book. A rather mundane tale filled with simplified solutions. If only all idiots would realize they don't work as a team and quit!

Freakonomics Audiobook By Steven D. Levitt, Stephen J. Dubner cover art

Fun & Informative

Overall
5 out of 5 stars

One of the few books that lives up to the hype. A very fun and informative listen that held my interest throughout (though the lists of baby names got a bit tedious at times). This seems like a version of THE TIPPING POINT with more substance.

The Long Goodbye Audiobook By Raymond Chandler cover art

Fun Hardboiled Tale

Overall
4 out of 5 stars

Originally a radio broadcast, this adaptation of Chandler's The Long Goodbye was full of fun sound effects that really took me back to an earlier era. Some great voicework on this one and a classic taut tale.

Fun Victorian Romp

Carr shows his great love of language in his continuation of the Sherlock Holmes mythos. A fun little story that wraps up neatly -- perhaps a little too neatly?
