Story
Alex Volkov is a devil blessed with the face of an angel and cursed with a past he can't escape. Driven by a tragedy that has haunted him for most of his life, his ruthless pursuits for success and vengeance leave little room for matters of the heart. But when he's forced to look after his best friend's sister, he starts to feel something in his chest. Ava Chen is a free spirit trapped by nightmares of a childhood she can't remember. But despite her past, she's never stopped seeing the beauty in the world . . . including the heart beneath the icy exterior of a man she shouldn't want.

Skip the audio and read physically, or maybe not at all.
Reviewed: 07-08-25
This was my second time trying to get through this book, and although I got through it this time I didn’t like it—especially not as an audiobook. I highly recommend reading a physical copy instead if you’re going to read this one.
The biggest issue for me is the voice acting. Ava already comes across as really young in the writing, but the narrator makes it worse—she sounds like a 16-year-old, not a 22-year-old. Jules’s voice also bugged me at first, though her voice grew on me a little, her’s at least felt the most natural. The male narrator was great but his female voices (especially during the spicy scenes) just didn’t work at all.
Also, as a photographer, I couldn’t stand the cliché “photographer” stuff. It was just cringey and totally unrealistic. And her group of friends? So random. You’ve got an anti-social influencer, a literal princess dating her bodyguard, and a stereotypical mean-girl law student. It felt like a mix of characters from totally different books.
The writing itself had some issues too. There were way too many overly detailed descriptions—like, like the overly detailed explanation of the bodyguard and his role? And some of the love declarations were so cheesy, I couldn’t tell if it was the writing or the voice acting that made them feel so cringe. Probably both.
I also didn’t love how some plot points were handled. There wasn’t enough buildup to major character shifts. Like, Alex supposedly doesn’t do sweet, face-to-face sex… but then totally breaks his own rule with Ava immediately? Even the overprotective brother/best friend who should’ve been against their relationship from the beginning is totally cool with it the first time? It all felt rushed and too easy.
Overall, I just couldn’t connect with the characters or get past the narration. This one wasn’t for me.

I really liked the first book in the series. This one was good too but the plot had lost its appeal to me. I feel like it is so drawn out now. I may take a break and then come back to this series later because I do really like it. But, I feel like so much has happened that could have been simplified and I just kept thinking, get on with it. There are plenty of great moments and I enjoy the overall plot line. I just feel that continuing for another 5books is going to be a lot. However I look forward to being proven wrong.

Great book, had been on my want to read list for a long time. Feels a lot like hunger games and mixes of other “utopian/dystopian” style books but nevertheless really good. I really enjoyed the narrators voice on the audible book.

I did not like the way this was narrated on audible. Both the female and male narrator had horrible voices for the opposite sex. And it took me out of the story very easily.
The book itself was good. I wasn’t super into it for the majority of the book. The granddaughter of a writer who is an artist , who then falls for a writer. All very cliche. The plot itself just didn’t feel like it had much depth. Boy meets girl, girl doesn’t like boy. Girl really meets boy and falls head over heels. But has past trauma. Boy just happens to already be in love with girl.
The big plot twist was a great surprise though. I did not see it coming, but once it did I knew, I saw it had been so obvious.

Story
Through the years, I lived more as an enigma than a man. For so long, I denied I had a beating heart of my own. Until her. Until she unearthed the starving vessel inside, forced me to acknowledge it, forced me to understand that I’m capable of bleeding the same as any other. For that, we paid. We're still paying. Yet she demands it still; the useless heart of the ruthless thief and shameless villain she fell for. My fear is that I’m no longer that man.

It’s a ghost town, this place that haunts me, the one that made me. It’s clear to me that I’ll never outgrow Triple Falls or outlive the time I spent here. I can still feel them all, my boys of summer. Even when I'd sensed the danger, I gave in. I didn’t heed a single warning. I let my sickness and my love both rule and ruin me. I played my part, eyes wide open, tempting fate until it delivered. There was never going to be an escape. All of us are to blame for what happened. All of us are serving our own sentences.

Felt like two books in one.
Reviewed: 05-30-25
The first book was good and I didn’t know how it would get better. The mmcs had “left” the narrative and I didn’t really know where the plot line was going next. But it was so good. More twisted spicy bits. More details to the Ravinhood and their background. A new equally devastating mmc.
I feel like I have read two books in this one. Soooo much has happened. I am devastated and reeled in. I feel so much for Cecilia and her story.
Everything is wrong. Just over 10 chapters left and I’m so much more devastated. This is not okay, everything is wrong.
Really Bradford pear trees… really? 😑
Honestly really liked this book too. I hope the final one doesn’t disappoint. I again am not sure where the next one will go since we kind of had a nice little wrap up, but I am eager to find out.
Again the audio book narrators did a fantastic job. I love the tandem reading and the narrators themselves.

Triple Falls wasn’t at all what it seemed, nor were the men that swept me under their wing. But in order to keep them, I had to be in on their secrets. Secrets that cost us everything to keep. That’s the novelty of fiction versus reality. You can’t re-live your own love story, because by the time you’ve realized you’re living it, it’s over. At least that was the case for me and the men I trusted my foolish heart to. Looking back, I’m convinced I willed my story into existence, due to my illness, and all were punished.

Spicy and sweet 🌶️🍫
Reviewed: 05-24-25
I am somewhat surprised by how much I liked this one. It’s a good amount of spicy 🌶️. I would say enough to keep you satisfied but not too much that it starts to have no plot. Between Sean and Dominic you get golden retriever and German shepherd mmc energy all at once, and it really is just the best of both worlds.
There were times where Cecilia’s inner monologue can be a bit droning, especially in the opening chapter.
The plot itself was good, I really enjoyed the story behind the smut and I feel like it could stand on its own even without the smut.
I really liked the male/female tandem read in the audio book. Joe Arden was great as the male narrator.

Hit me. Kick me. Hurt me. Hate me. There’s nothing that the students of Raleigh High can do to Silver Parisi anymore. Over the past year, she’s had to endure more pain and suffering than most people are asked to bear in their lifetimes. She’s a pariah, an outcast, a ghost. She’s also never been one to take shit lying down, though...despite what half the football team might say. With only 168 days left of the school year, it won’t be long until graduation, and Silver’s planning on skipping town and leaving Raleigh firmly in her rearview mirror. Until he comes along....

Some very heavy topics but good plot and spice.
Reviewed: 05-20-25
I was definitely not prepared for the very heavy topics present in this book. (I am more of a trust the ratings and dive right in reader, not a read the summary kind of reader) I thought it was just going to be a cute spicy, bad boy, good girl type romance. There are some heavy topics at play. That being said, it was pretty good. Not the best but not the worst. There were satisfyingly predictable parts and some very unexpected parts. The romance was good and the MMC speaking Italian didn’t hurt. I don’t tend to like the idea of high school romances, being an almost 30 year old, they feel a little gross. But it was rated highly and Teddy Hamilton was one of the audio book narrators so… I gave it a go. The narrators were great, of course Teddy Hamilton is always phenomenal! The MFC’s narrator, Charlotte North’s voice did give a little bit of Christy Plunkett vibes at time though, not a bad thing, just an observation.

Pain is an abyss. How naive of me to think I’d already reached the very depths of it when fate shook my world with a crushing blow. It turns out there are fathomless levels of pain, like a winding labyrinth of doors leading to shadowy figures and long-forgotten secrets. The kind of inescapable descent into madness that twists nightmares into reality. What lies at the end of this obscure path I have yet to discover. But where it begins is a place called Infernium: an asylum feared by those in Nightshade and untrodden by the angels who’ve forsaken its many lost souls.

Idk the first one was good but I just am not feeling this one. I made it to chapter 30 but have no willingness to want to finish it. I even took a break for a couple weeks and read something else but I just can’t get back into it. Some of the extra demon sexual parts that just do not do it for me, and actually really turn me off. (The swelling of Jericho’s head.) I’m also not really into the baby part, which has been the entire plot of this second book so far.
The audio book narrators are great though.
