Just A Great Story

This was so much fun to listen to and having these two veteran narrators give life to it only ups the ante. Don’t listen to the nit pickers and nay sayers. This is a fantastic coming of age story and a ton of fun to listen to.

Story
Dr. Tyson Klein is a quantum physicist who has dedicated his entire life to his research. At CERN, he analyses data generated by the Large Hadron Collider, the world's biggest and most powerful particle accelerator. Now, Ty believes he's found a pattern in its output. It looks like an organised data stream, being broadcast over what he calls a quantum radio. Could it be a signal from another universe? A message sent from the future? Or something else entirely?

Story
On a brisk autumn day, a 13-year-old boy stands on the shores of the gray Atlantic, near a silent amusement park and a fading ocean resort called the Alhambra. The past has driven Jack Sawyer here: His father is gone, his mother is dying, and the world no longer makes sense. But for Jack everything is about to change. For he has been chosen to make a journey back across America - and into another realm. One of the most influential and heralded works of fantasy ever written, The Talisman is an extraordinary novel of loyalty, awakening, terror, and mystery.

This book has just about everything one wants from a story… a lovable main character, a villain you hate to pieces, loss, love, heartache, triumph, and some really creepy stuff just to spice it up.

Story
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

I’m a huge SK fan. I don’t love ve all his work but I really love the ones that have connected with me. This book is extremely well done. It kept me listening even at times I normally would t listen like at work or falling asleep at night.
From the get go we’re invested in what Charlie is up to and once the plot really gets rolling it doesn’t disappoint one iota.
There’s the telltale King style spooky stuff and a few things that just may keep you up at night in here to make this one of my favorite King novels to date!

In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

What an incredible story. Halfway through I was already thinking about finishing it and starting again immediately. The narrator isn’t the greatest ever but Kong’s story shines (pardon the pun) through and I was on the edge of my seat struggling along with the kids from The Institute.

What was once the Peradaini Empire is now a wasted landscape of burned, empty cities and abandoned farmlands. The Blessing, now more numerous than ever, continues to spread across the continent, driving refugees to the dubious safety of the city walls. Unharvested crops mean that few strongholds have enough provisions to last the winter, although most know the grunts will take them before starvation will. But hope survives.

Kept Me Entertained
Reviewed: 05-12-19
This story had a lot of fun elements. Werebears, magick, giant eagles... the pace was solid, characters were pretty well developed without being overly wordy, and the story kept my attention. My only gripe is that this is one book broken into three parts. Kind of a bummer to spend 3 credits to make it to the end. Books 1 & 2 end abruptly. But, that being said, I still went for it and bought the last 2. That’s saying something. So, go for it! It’s a solid listen.

I was on the fence for this for a while. I’ll be honest.... it took a few to get used to the pacing and way the author is telling the story but once I did I was all in.
This is a really smart, funny, and entertaining book with all the right elements of a great adventure. If you’re on the fence too... jump in!
