Story
Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

Doom and Gloom
Reviewed: 11-14-24
This book is the most depressing book I’ve ever listened to. Not worth a credit. It’s doom and gloom with a bit more doom and then some more gloom.

Story
Sam’s life is on track. She has the perfect doctor fiancé, Jack (his strict routines are a good thing, really), a great job in Manhattan (unless they fire her), and is about to tour a wedding venue near her family’s Long Island beach house. Everything should go to plan, yet the minute she arrives, Sam senses something is off. Wyatt is here. Her Wyatt. But there’s no reason for a thirty-year-old engaged woman to feel panicked around the guy who broke her heart when she was seventeen. Right?

Not my favorite, but I enjoyed it

I am surprised by the amount of reviews this book has received. It wasn't my favorite of Colleen Hoover's books, but I still enjoyed it. The narrator's voice was just ok!

Story
Do you ever wonder what decisions will shape your destiny? For Lindsay, one of those decisions was made at the young age of 13, when she converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints—known to the world as "the Mormon church". Over the course of a decade, Lindsay would take a journey into one of the most secretive and powerful religious organizations in the world, a journey that would cause her to lose her true self as she submitted to the doctrine of the Mormon church. Little did she know that two people would come into her life and take her on a new journey.

Lindsay’s zest for life and care for humanity are both very apparent throughout the pages of VIXEN. I felt so seen as she took me on her journey of self-discovery. I never wanted to label my own experience in “Mormonism” as traumatic because I had an amazing childhood, but I had several “aha” moments leading me to see things for what they are. I feel inspired to work on my healing and growth, so thank you Lindsay for having the courage to share your story!
