Story
In the snowbound city of Kiev, wry and bookish history student Mila Pavlichenko organizes her life around her library job and her young son—but Hitler’s invasion of Russia sends her on a different path. Given a rifle and sent to join the fight, Mila must forge herself from studious girl to deadly sniper—a lethal hunter of Nazis known as Lady Death. When news of her three hundredth kill makes her a national heroine, Mila finds herself torn from the bloody battlefields of the eastern front and sent to America on a goodwill tour.

The Diamond Eye was spellbinding. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the fact that it was nonfiction. Characters were believable and narration were well done. I'd highly recommend it!

Excellent prologue to KILLER ANGELS
Reviewed: 08-19-24
An outstanding prologue to THE KILLER ANGELS written by the son of the author of THE KILLER ANGELS! It introduces us to a number of the characters who will play key roles in the battle of Gettysburg! Michael Schaara does a brilliant job of introducing Lee, Hancock, Chamberlain and Jackson as well as many others who are integral to the events of the spring and summer of 1863 in the Virginia Campaigns! He manages to provide enough facts to establish historical accuracy while engaging us with ideas and feelings to establish the humanity of these critical antagonists in the paramount battle of the American Civil War!!! Brilliant book!!! I have now completed listening to it three times in eight years! I will almost certainly enjoy it again!!!

Story
July 1863. The Confederate Army of Northern Virginia is invading the North. General Robert E. Lee has made this daring and massive move with seventy thousand men in a determined effort to draw out the Union Army of the Potomac and mortally wound it. His right hand is General James Longstreet, a brooding man who is loyal to Lee but stubbornly argues against his plan. Opposing them is an unknown factor: General George Meade, who has taken command of the Army only two days before what will be perhaps the crucial battle of the Civil War.

Outstanding Experience of Battle of Gettysburg
Reviewed: 08-16-24
This novel realistically describes the battle of Gettysburg which was likely the most critical of the American Rebellion! Delving into the likely thoughts of key players while describing in detail the events of the battle make it fascinating and engrossing! I have now listened to it three times over five or so years and will do so again some time later!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE KILLER ANGELS!!!

London, 1933. At first glance, Austrian opera singer Elsa Mayer-Braun has little in common with the young English typist she encounters on tour. Yet she and Hattie Featherstone forge an instant connection—and strike a dangerous alliance. Using their friendship as a cover, they form a secret society with a daring goal: to rescue as many Jews as possible from Nazi persecution. Though the war’s outbreak threatens Elsa and Hattie’s network, their efforts attract the covert attention of the British government, offering more opportunities to thwart the Germans.

The stories of the nurses were totally believable and intriguing. As a retired nurse myself and a confessed fan of M*A*S*H, I enjoyed these tremendously.
they love hate relationship of the public in America about the Vietnam war was so sad . Yet knowing some veterans who came back mentally torn apart with no available resources to help them makes this story ring true through and through.
some of Frankie's relationships were believable . Others I had a hard time with (although I guess that's life) but who am I to judge.. overall I'd recommend this book.

This true story was an eye opener. I didn't love it, but I am glad that I listen to the whole thing. It is a tragedy of life that evil can abound in many circumstances without anyone giving a damn.
The author Misty Griffin is to be applauded for her courage in making her story public and advocating for anyone in danger to know there is hope and help somewhere out in this big world.

Story
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.
