About this listen

Bearded, bad-boy barber Knox prefers to live his life the way he takes his coffee: Alone. Unless you count his basset hound, Waylon.

Knox doesn’t tolerate drama, even when it comes in the form of a stranded, runaway bride.

Naomi wasn’t just running away from her wedding. She was riding to the rescue of her estranged twin, to Knockemout, Virginia, a rough-around-the-edges town where disputes are settled the old-fashioned way....With fists and beer. Usually in that order.

Too bad for Naomi, her evil twin hasn’t changed at all. After helping herself to Naomi’s car and cash, Tina leaves her with something unexpected. The niece Naomi didn’t know she had. Now, she’s stuck in town with no car, no job, no plan, and no home - with an 11-year-old going on 30 to take care of.

There’s a reason Knox doesn’t do complications, or high-maintenance women, especially not the romantic ones. But, since Naomi’s life imploded right in front of him, the least he can do is help her out of her jam. And just as soon as she stops getting into new trouble, he can leave her alone, and get back to his peaceful, solitary life.

At least, that’s the plan, until the trouble turns to real danger.

Loved it from start to finish

This page-turner was filled with a mix of witty humor, complex family dynamics, emotional baggage, and sexy, toe-curling encounters. And I can’t forget to mention the healthy dose of love and support from the main character’s best friends and family. The narrators of this book really bought the story to life. I could not stop listening. Highly recommend!

Didn't want to put this down!

Things We Never Got Over is the first book in the new series, Knockemout. This is the first book I have read by this author and it definitely won’t be the last. I’m already looking forward to the release of book 2 in this series which comes out in a few weeks. Things We Never Got Over is a contemporary romance that has a few different tropes as the book goes on, such as Hate to Lovers, Fake Relationship, Boss/Workplace, Single Parent, Runaway Bride, and it has a Small Town feel. The main characters are adults, the main male, Knox, is in his early 40s and the main female, Naomi in her late 30s. The book is set in Northern Virginia.

I don’t typically enjoy the enemy/hate to lovers trope. The execution of it usually doesn’t work for me. In this book, I did start to get mildly annoyed by it at times when Knox and Naomi’s behavior toward each other started to become obnoxious or in my mind unreasonable, but I feel like it really came together and was executed pretty well. It was a pleasant surprise.

I liked listening to this book quite a bit, and by the end of the book, I loved it. This is a book that I can definitely see myself listening to again. I might even purchase a print copy so I can add it to my home library.

The book is written in dual POVs for the main characters and is narrated by a male and female narrator with alternating POVs. The narration was great. I didn’t have any problems with the narrators at all. Well, actually, scratch that, I did notice a couple mispronunciations by the male narrator but it wasn’t a big deal, just something I noted and then continued on. It didn’t pull me out of the story for long.

I absolutely recommend this book. I saw the reviews are plentiful on both ends of the spectrum but this is a book that you should give a try yourself before passing any judgements. I’m certainly glad that I decided to give it a try. Overall, I give this book 4.75 stars, rounded up to 5.

After reading the book, I ran to get the audiobook. As always, Sebastian York and Lila Winters did this beautiful story justice! TWNGO has been #1 for a reason!
